my cables always get stuck in the brake position. I have to get under the truck and wiggle the 2 into one cable to get it to release. are there replacement cables available( the separate ones connected to the brakes)? what kind of job is it to change them? I have two young girls (4 and 5) and they are always bombing around the farm with me. I'm afraid that they could put the truck in drive when its idleing. I hate the fact that the brake dose not have to be pressed to shift out of park. accident waiting to happen!

Check the dealer parts dept. Carquest, etc. One tip: tighten a small hose clamp around the multi fingered end that holds the cable into the backing plate to release the fingers.

replaced both of mine over the summer, got them from the local auto zone store, the worst part of changing them is pulling the drum to get at the brake end of them.

I have a set for my reg cab around here that I got from Carquest, pretty sure they are only $15 - $20 for each of them.

renember the hub seal and it might be adviseible to get a speedy sleve for the hub as a lot have grooves on them

I've taken the PIA hubs off a few times in the last year. the last time was to remove the self adjusters due to them over adjusting the rear brakes. what is a speedy sleve?

It is a very thin metal sleeve that would drive on the rear spindle where the seal rides at to give a new smooth surface for the seal to ride on.

Yes, but there is the potential that it might have to be ordered in. So many sizes are available....

If you do wind up using speedi-sleeves because of grooves in the seal spindle surface make SURE that you apply a thin bead of good RTV silicone to the seal spindle surface before installing the sleeve. If you don't the gear oil can creep through between the spindle and speedi-sleeve which creates a leak. Been there, done it over as a result.

Procedure here.....http://www.skf.com/group/products/s...leeve/installing-skf-speedi-sleeve/index.html
