Ever had warranty work refused due to claimed improper lubricant use?

Thanks, TDR Staff

Have you ever actually use Magnussen-Moss to challenge warranty refusal?

Ever have a service department refuse to honor your warranty due to their claim you were NOT using the proper lubricant for your specific failure/application? If so, can you give the specifics?

We have the ocassional "lube wars" here as related to warranties and various auto maker specifications related to API or specifically required lubricants for a particular application - have you ever used something the dealer said was NOT authorized, and had your warranty voided? This would include ALL drivetrain elements - engine, transmission and differential...

Let's see if our concerns over lube specs IS a valid issue... :p ;) :D

Axle seals were denied once due to Amsoil. Service advisor phoned and metioned the fluid looked too clean. He said it should be "dark grey and gritty" to make the clutch packs work in the LSD. I said WTF ?? It's Amsoil synthetic and it's works just fine. He said that "They (the service dept) did not like Amsoil because it shrinks seals and is too thin (leaks easy). I promptly headed over,talked to the writer,service manager,and the owner for an hour to no avail. :-{}

Best part was I took it back a week later for a DRL module,did not metion the axle seals,and they found the axle seals leaking,changed them,and nothing more was ever said about it.

I used to enjoy some of the lines the mechanics,and service writers used to feed me,not knowing my background,or knowledge about my truck. A few good ones were...

The track bar is SUPPOSED to move up to . 080" to absorb road shock and improve steering control.

The truck is SUPPOSED to pull to the right,so you won't veer in to oncoming traffic.

and the best one yet... .

Caster is non adjustable on your truck... . you don't need castor,because the rear end is higher than the front,so it will automatically go straight.

:eek: :eek: :eek:
