towing & clutch

Hey gang, We were at the RV show in Harrisburg this past weekend. Does anyone have any comments good or bad about this 5ers. Montana had a new floor plan with the living room up front. It was really nice. Thanks. Jeff

I have a 2002 and love it so far but no major pulls with it yet. Mine weighs about 14,000# gross also. I have a few problems so far but not terrible but I kind of expected better.

1) When water pump runs terrible noise like pipes vibrating inside against wall. I think it is because pump is connected directly to rigid plastic and needs 12 or 18 inches of flex pipe on inlet and outlet to fix. Probably fix myself.

2) Ocassionally pump did not want to shut of and would keep running. There is adjustment on front pump to correct.

3) Mine has triple slides and on one side 2 screws that fasten skin to angle iron broke off letting the skin flap lose. I replaced the screws.

4) Screen over dining table pushed out. I think table hit it when slide was pulled in.

5) Multiple water drains under the trailer. They just have caps on them and where they are located kind of a pain to drain after using. I have not came up with a way to make this simplier yet!!!

Next week will be toing from Phoenix to San Bernardino Calif. via I-10. The from San Bernardino via Barstow to Kingman Arizona. The I-40 through Flagstaff to our place East of Showlow Ariz. Lot of differnt pulling grades, ambient temps, etc. Let you know after that how it does. Look forward to sahing out truck and trailer on this trip.

Floor plan on mine kind of unusual. Opposing rear 2 slides for kitchen, dinging area with bar in the middle. Living room in middle by entrance door then bathroom and bedroom upstairs with slide for queen bed area.

Sorry about long post.

I have a 28. 5 Montana Triple slide love it to death. I have towed it to Oregon twice from Reno and once to S. California. Tows great.

I have a 2002 Montana, sounds the same as Bob's. Tows great. I live in Salem, Oregon and have made 3 trips to central Washington and several around the state. Only had a couple of problems. A fitting on the gas line between the propane tanks leaked and had to be tightened, and the roll pins that hold the crank to the roof vents kept falling out. Had to glue them in. I have the same noise from the pump. It is quite loud in the bedroom. I am very happy with our Montana.

Jeff Knight ~ Well got back from my 1200 mile tow and things went very well. It trailed well even when I was going from Devore Calif. to Kingman Ariz. with an average of 20 mile an hour winds gusting to 40. I did learn one thing and a mistake I made. I stored the 50 amp extension cord in the side compartment just ahead of the dump valves. There is a slit in the back of that compartment and you guessed it; the cord slipped through and wore in half on the run from Kingman and where I stopped for a break in Williams. Going to loss a couple feet of length after I fix that little problem. All in all a great trip and cannot wait to do more after retirement in January. Oo.
