It is. Started hearing weird swooshing noises under certian loads at certian times from bell housing area. There was also an audible whine that would increase with the rpm. It sounded kind of like a large electric rotory motor starting up. I dropped the pan and had good amount of aluminium shavings and chunks of clutch mat. They tore it down and cut the converter apart. Turns out a bearing and race went bad it the torque converter and that was the noise. Also was very lucky to catch it early.

So now upgrading a little more. Going to rebuild the converter with a dampend clutch and upgrade the rear drum, forward clutch pack and retainer. After that dont think there is anything more to upgrade all the shafts are billet. The valve body is a custom in house unit. Honestly theres too many things to remember. Im going to ask for a detailed build sheet to share when i pick it up. Im also having a one piece aluminium drive shaft built to get rid of the two piece. The stock drive line has a bit more slop in the slip than normal. I think i bent that sucker doing smokey burnouts with the buddies one night. It had vibrations even after replacing all the ujoints. The carrier was shot also.

Always exciting to do upgrades. I got the diesel bug back when i bought the thing and it wont go away:D

Yes about 300rpm lower. Thats what it was before. I like the lower stall for all the good, but man the thing wants to creep when at a stoplight! And in 4x4low holly cow it will not stop. I learned shift her to nuetral after a couple of oh snap moments!!!!

I also just bought a Dearle remote mount cooler to run in line with the stock cooling set up. Iv had it get pretty hot out in the high country in the middle of summer, figured why not.

God i love spending money.

Well shes all done. Wasnt able to get any pictures of the actual trans tear down. The builder had the TC cut open and revealed a bearing was trashed. Thats what the noise was. The TC was rebuilt with a dampened clutch. The rear drum/forward clutch retainer was upgraded to billet with the addition of an extra cluch in the pack. She is now a completely built unit. The 1st to 2nd shift was detuned a little (use to shift so hard when the truck was empty it would knock my coffee cup out of its holder). Shifts very firm still but not as bad as before. The dampened TC makes a small difference but not much. I think the reasoning behind the dampner is to take some of the rotational shock off the input shaft and torsional stress that vibrates through the rest of the trans and drivetrain. I also put a Dearle remote mount cooler inline with the stock cooling circuit. I also had a one peice aluminium driveshaft made to eliminate the two peice.
