Took my 99 motor out yesterday. Getting it preped for the upgrades listed in my sig below. Pulled pan-not a spot of sludge, bearings looked brand new-everything speced out well within limits-even though I had not changed oil in the last (truck has 110,000 miles on it) 95,000 miles:--) Not a mark on cam either. If this doesn't proved that bypass oil filters work and work well (www.puradyne.com) then I don't know what will. I had made up my mind to remove unit and change oil as I was worried about adding more HP to engine. I have been running 450+hp for the last year (30,000 miles) but after seeing this I am putting it back on. The mechanic who helped me has a 96-12v and he is ordering one after seeing what mine did. These bypass filters are cheap insurance. By the way I don't sell these things and I'm sure others (such as amsoils) work just as well. The only thing I can see different from the one I use and others is the heating element that cooks off water, antifreeze And diesel fuel that gets in oil. :D

I changed the factory filter once a year and used the fleetguard microglass. I changed the Puradyne (bypass) filter element every 15,000 miles.

I did not have before measurements but all bearings, cylinder sizes, thrust washer were in specs for new parts. The filter holds about 1/2 quart, its a drop in metal coffee can sized filter with a hole in top and bottom. Oil enters from hole in bottom and goes up thru filter medium then out hole in top to spiral around before contacting heating element on top then dumps out to return oil line. On my 99 I made a bracket that bolted onto the top of the alt. bracket and attached the filter between alt and battery. This won't work anymore as the twins I am installing need some of this area. Since I am installing a FASS system I will use the area where the factory fuel filter was to reinstall puradyne filter. I have a hose which feeds oil from the top of the oil filter housing to the filter and dump line goes to fitting that replaces oil pan plug. In my 96 we spliced into rubber hose between turbo and oil return line going into oil pan. I bought about 6 of the filter sytems in 1999 and then they were $500 each. THey have redesigned the filter housing and I believe the price might be lower. I will be putting the new style on my 03 after the holidays (waiting for 15,000 miles) and I post the price when I buy it.

Putting it where the old fuel filter was, was the idea I was thinking about. I too have the FASS system. I also have the Amsoil system, but I like the idea of the heating element to cook off any water or fuel that works its way into the oil. ;)
