Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Ex Manifold Issues

I have often heard about the shrinkage issues with the older stock exhuast manifolds. Now that I have to get an exhaust system, I have been debating about the $450 bucks for the the ATS manifolds.



The question I have is how serious is the issue of the stock manifolds, how often does it occur or is it a rare blue moon kind of thing ???

I saw an example of thisin a freightliner the other day. A friend bought the fl to add to his fleet and it has the 5. 9 cummins. The manifold has shrunk on both ends enough to bend the bolt on the front by about 3/8'" and the back bolt has been pulled right out of the threads.

My stocker shrunk on me (even before the engine mods). All but 2 of the bolts were bent. Most were a tad loose also.



Do a little more shopping. The ATS can be had cheaper than the $460 price that most sell them at. I didn't pay that much, even including the shipping.

Spend the $ dude! Theres also a chance that when the stock manifold shrinks, it can crack the head :{ . Happened to someone I know. I saw this & ran out got one for mine. $450 is a lot cheaper than the price of a new head. The ATS is pretty easy to install also. Good Luck! Mike

I went with the new HTT manifold. . Who knows, if you offer them $415 for the manifold and complete gasket kit they may take your offer...

Well, I finally ordered the ATS Manifolds. Got a nice price from Mr. Bob.



I am curious if members would use Locktite Blue (I think its medium) on the new bolts at installation time.
