In looking at a 12V exhaust manifold/turbo (ex. side) with ablolutely no paint on it whatsoever, is this a cause for concern. Or do most stock engines produce enough heat after 71000 miles to basically void them of all paint. Its not pitted, just a nice smooth orange rust color. Any cause for concern about high EGT's. Or is this really not a definite indicator of EGT's.

Mines the same. There is no paint that can survive long at 1400+ degrees( only ceramic coatings and such ). I've seen some manifolds that were almost yellow from high temps.

Exhaust Manifold Paint

:D I have some aluminized paint on my manifold that has been on for the last 6 months and it lookes just like it did the day I put it on. The brand name of this paint has left my memory as of now , but the paint is used for the maintence of the turbines at the electric generating plant. do a little research on paint and you can find something that will suit you. the cost of this paint is 130. 00 a gal. there is a solution to your dilema

GoatHerder-go take gingo biloaba (sp!) and tell us what it is. Is it available in aresol?

I was planning on the VHT treatment myself...

If your thinking of VHT paint. Pull the manifold and have it bead blasted. Then paint it. I have done this for years on gas engines with cast manifolds. Works very well.

Cast manifolds soak it up like a sponge.

If you just shoot over the rust it will come off pretty fast.

I have some stuff that's supposed to be pulverised stainless steel. I dont have the name of it, but I got it in J C Whitney about 5 years ago. It's put out by a Corvette club in N Carolina, if memory serves me.

Holds up pretty good.

I painted mine with that high temp BBQ black paint. Still clean & black after six months, and I did not even clean off any rust prior to spraying- Well it worked for me !
