2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Exactly how creative?

Geno's catalogue states that with 2000 + and up trucks, you have to be a little creative to install the fuel pressure gauge. I'm wondering exactly how creative one has to be. Has anyone installed a FP gauge on a 2002? If so, is it a big endeavour? I have only basic tools and am pretty good with a wrench. Are there any additional parts that I will need? I have read some talk of a grease gun hose used for this install. What is the deal with that?

Not sure but the "creative" part probably refers to removing the Schraeder valve type test port to get a NPT connection for the gauge hose. I think the earlier 24v trucks had capped NPT fittings for test ports.



A rubber-type hose is recommended between the gauge sender and the fuel rail to dampen pressure spikes created by the VP44. A grease gun hose works for this and typically has 1/8" NPT ends so you can easily adapt it to 1/4" NPT if needed.



I think 1/8NPT to 1/4NPT reducers are the most exotic thing you need to complete the FP gauge install. Hopefully I'll be doing mine this weekend.

I think it pertains to the fact that you have to make your own bracket to mount the sending unit and find a hose suitable for the arrangement. Or. . it could mean that you have to use your noggin to figure out a new installation method. I think you can handle it. If you're not so sure, get some help at one of the BOMB events.

Scott, you don't have to be that creative at all. Actually, I have all the needed pieces to do this(banjo bolts,guage,sender, etc) laying on my workbench. The only thing I need to get is a little spare time to do this My wife says I have a bad case of "won'tgetmybuttoffthecouchitus"



We are going to the Sierras and Lake Tahoe for a week, I'll give you a shout when we get back. You could come by my house and I can show you how its done.

That would be great. Lemme see if I'll be able to get the gauge this week. It would be cool as $#!* if you'd help. At the risk of joining the Lift Pump Police, I'd still like to have the gauge for peace of mind. That and it's always nice to have distractful things in your truck while moving down the freeway. "Did you feel that bump? It felt kinda like a Honda!"

I have an 01', all i needed was a $3. 00 tire valve tool to remove the Schrader valve core and i ran braided line to the gauge. That it, done. Not hard. Are the 02's different?

Next time you do not have a tire valve tool and want to get valve out lile right now take a 10/32 screw and with a hack saw cut a slot in center of long axis about 1/8"deep ,this can be used to unscrew the valve and save you a trip to the store . just a thing to make thing go easy. On mine, I used a common air conditioning charging hose - already has the proper connector attached to depress the valve, and in need be, can be removed in seconds... I used a bracket I already had, and a common U-bolt to attach to the large brake hose fitting back towards the firewall - see sig pointer below for pictures...

If you order from Geno's they'll help you get exactly what you need for the install, minus the grease gun hose, they'll give you the NAPA part number for that.



However, be prepared to wait as they are on backorder right now, should be in in a week or two (the westach gauges).
