Exactly what is this "DPF" thing?

A couple of weeks ago, after having been off TDR for a few months, I returned and got started "with it" again.

Right off the bat you guys were talking about DPFs and I didn't have a clue at the time. Found out pretty quick though.

Then today, I ran across this article by Ford which I thought ought to be available here to help other DPF neophytes :-laf like myself.

i like to think of it like uncle sam put a expensive tater in the tail pipe of modern diesels, it's really wedged in there hard and the computer really likes french fried p'taters mmm hmm, and if you take it's tater away it'll whack you with a lawn mower blade, or turn on a light and get all pissy
