My 1996 12 Valve is in the shop for loss of power and gray smoke from the exhaust. According to the shop owner the BD exhaust brake and P-Pump are apparently working correctly, however the injectors appear to be providing a higher amount of fuel than they should.

Going off memory.... someone will correct this if I'm off base.

New 215hp Bosch were a good option last time this came up.

Sometimes they are on Rock Auto, sometimes not, if I recall.

I did not read your profile for Mods and the sort, figuring on stock config.

If stock there were multiple suggestions of mods and rebuilds, but I think the new 215hp ones were the winner.

What did they test or are they guessing?

I found it at a used car dealer in 2011, where the original owner had traded it in. I tracked him down soon after off a note he had made in the owner's manual.
He still had paperwork of what had been added by a business in Washington state The PowerShop:
1. Banks Powerpack
2. BD Brake Exhaust
3. 60# Valve Springs
4. BD TC (Low Stall) for 4x4
5. 47RE Trans Valve Body
6. BD Trans Pressure Lock Control Device
7. BD TC TORQLOC Control

He bought the truck new in Canada just north of Washington state and then retired to Southern Arizona sometime after 2003.

They checked the spray pattern and said the tips appear to have been drilled at some point.

Had only towed a boat w/ a small truck camper on the 8' bed until recently when I towed a 8K Fifth Wheel Trailer from 2K to 9K elevation and discovered the truck couldn't handle the trailer w/o overheating.

I have no paperwork on any injector mods or service from the original owner and I've lost track of the original owner.

I'd suggest you or them check the pump timing.

As far as the injectors, sounds like you have some type of performance injector in the truck. If the injectors were the only issue, I'd say you'd have black smoke and no loss of power, unless one was just pouring fuel. Loss of power, "popping", and white smoke are signs of slipped timing.

The mechanic checked the pump timing, which was 13 deg. He has tried adjusting it from there up to 15 deg w/o any change in the gray smoke. He has noted that the p-pump has been fiddled with sometime in the past. He has been working on these engines since Dodge starting putting them in their trucks.

You mention overheating have you checked the fins of the radiator and charge air cooler for dirt and debris ?

It had a new radiator, cummins T-stat and water pump installed in Nov. 2018. The overheating occurred on pulls up El Capitan and up out of the Salt River Canyon here in Arizona. Our temps were over 100 degrees. Today was 114 deg here on the back porch in the shade.

Got it. Does the fan clutch engage also? Not doubting anything just thinking of simple items.

The Banks pkg modifies the pump. My injector question was directed at the shop that told you they were drilled out.
