I recently (2,000 miles ago ) replaced my exhaust with the Banks Monster Exhaust System due to some damage done to the original tail pipe and muffler. Ever since I did this the truck seems to be creating an excessive amount of soot on the rear fender even though there is an extension on the pipe. Any thoughts or comments on what may be going on or what I should check?

Larry, I just did the same thing last Monday but, I've only got 180 miles on this Banks set up so far. I'll keep an eye on this and report back to you. Gosh I'm a clean freak... this could drive me nutz.

Does your boost gauge show normal readings? A loose and leaking boot can cause excessive smoke. I have the Banks exhaust too and get a little soot buildup, but not bad. But then again, I'm mildly BOMBed.

p. s. There is an interesting IAT sensor thread running. A dirty IAT sensor can increase the smoke (soot).

I noticed the same thing when I changed mufflers. The walker straight thru but louvered let more thru but when I went straight pipe it let it all come thru. I used to clean the rear quarter and bumper every week but the last time I played around, the tip angled a little farther down and now I don't have to clean it near as much. I believe the difference you are seeing is because of the muffler. I have had my muffler on and off and the soot occurrence always reappeared when I took the muffler off.

Mine Too!

My truck is new (orig. exhaust) with 4800 miles and i have this problem? Just washed it this morning and thought (this sucks :( ). My trucks color is also white. I guess it's just one of the joy's of owning a diesel. :D

Thanx for all the response guys, I did pull the K&N out of the filter box today after reading all of the issues on that situation. I'm not sure if that will help or not, but we'll see! If any one else has any words of wisdom - please don't hesitate, thanks... ... ... ... ... .....

Gents

We have the fix for you , put stacks on, all Cummins deserve them, its the manly thing to do , now when I get it on and see all that black bellowing out all I do is :D and Lovin every minute of it ... ... ... ..... Kevin

You probably have the same amount of soot as you always did it's just that air turbulence around the new setup is directing the soot to a new place. Try angling the tip up or down some, it shouldn't take much.

stack exhaust

Just returned from the tdr rally at Columbus, Ind. and enjoyed it very much. Drove the new 03 dually 6 speed. It is definitely a quiet engine all to my disappointment, since I like a Diesel to be a Diesel noise, smell, looks, and everything that supposed to go with it. I have an 02 3500 cab and chassis 6 speed 410s and a power puck and I love this truck. I regularly pull heavy loads wiith it and it pulls like a champ. Now I want a straight exhaust stack on it, but I dont know where to come up with one. Anyone with any ideas? By the way, anyone who missed the rally missed a really grand time . Met a lot of really nice people, and saw lots of really nice trucks. If it aint a Cummins, it aint a Diesel. Have a good day, everyone. jwhite1
