excessive noise from shifter area?

it seems like i have more noise then usual coming from my shifter area. maybe some insulation fell out. for those of you with the g56 that took off the shifter boot is there any insulation down there? i looked under the truck but saw not nothing. thanks... . james

there are two isolation boots directly under the shifter boot. one is a black rubber boot that resembles the outer leather one. and the other is a little orange cap looking boot. i had the larger black one get ripped and that caused alot of interior noise. just some starting points.

I have a NV5600, not that it matters for this, and I have added about 1 inch of foam in between the two boots years ago. It's way quieter.

could you guys give the take apart procedure for the floor console to lift the boot so i can inspect the inner boots? it looks like i have to lift the cup holder insert and remove some bolts underneath then take assembly apart in a few pieces. i called my dealer and the transmission guy told me to just pull up on the boot. i tried that but it dosnt budge! thanks. . james

you can remove the outer boot without removing the floor console. it will pop out when pulled up from the edge closest to the center seat. there are 2 spring clips on that edge, the sides have nothing and the rear end has 2 plastic tabs that go under the floor console

nickleinonen is right, just give give it a tug like he suggested. I was curious when I installed my SRT-10 shifter, so I pulled everything up. Click on my truck pictures in my signature, and go to the SRT-10 album.
