Drove my truck about 400 miles yesterday to come visit family for easter and noticed Oil all over the read drivers side tire, and all over the underside of the truck. I added about a gallon ofer the corse of this trip. Seems like ALL the oil is coming out of the breather tube??? Motor runs perfect, does not seem to be burning oil, Does not seem to have excessive crankcase pressure( blowing out of the tube), No steady oil drip while idleing, What is causing this??? I still have to make a ruturn trip tomorrow night, I am afraid the truck may break down? Could I have burnt rings? bad breather? suggestions on what to check (with limited tools) thanks guys!

Fill in your signature info as this would help a lot since there are a couple different systems on the 2nd gen trucks. I know this can happen in 2001-02 trucks if driven down a very steep decline even for a short time. I have a 98. 5 and never had excessive blow-by.

I've read some where on here a bad vacuum pump can cause oil coming out breather tube. But don't know the reason why. You mite want to do a search on 2nd generation 24 valve.

I have a bud who is a 12v freak and called him on his cell to call me back ASAP. I'll post back when he returns my call. I seem to recall he had a similar problem when he was down in Mexico. Hopefully... .

There were a couple threads lately about this. Both times there was a bad vacuum hose. I think going to the cruise unit. Do a search with in the last couple weeks.

Good Luck!

As usual I was confused if it was his truck or someone elses so no answer to a ultimate fix BUT he did get home by taking a long hose and re-directing the blowby oil back into the oil filler cap and duct taping the hose to stay in place. Now, this was in MX so not many services to have confidence in the complete fix but maybe it'll get you home where you can get it analysed and fixed the way you want. Hope this helps.

Thanks chuck, I have actually had that thought! LOL, I swear it is just my trucks love of leaking oil. Ever since I have replaced the front cover, and ALL the seals, Oil pressure sending unit(twice) transmission seals, the truck Has just been looking for a new way to bask in its own filth, I guess she found it! LOL, but seriously guys, I hope someone has "the fix" I am headed out to chech vacuum lines as we speak,

Oh, I hear ya loud and clear man... anytime I do something that has anything to do with fluids it's leakin' like your worst nightmare. Good luck to you and post how it ultimately turns out if you have the time. Always curious.

OK, so found vacuum leaks , fixed them, still puked oil, drove home with the fill cap removed, extra venting prevented any more oil leaking, but I still don't know what the heck is causing this problem??? Turbo's seem fine also? Motor runs WAY to good to have any cylinder blow by? Any more suggestions would be greatly apriciated.

I had a similiar oil leak problem. I lost 3 gallon of oil during a 300 mile trip. Here is my very long thread:

http://www.tdr1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127186

To make a long story short, I figured I kept over-filling the oil and not letting it sit long enough to get a good dipstick reading. Eventually I got home and quit adding oil and it stopped puking oil. Apparently (in my case anyhow) if you overfill the oil the engine will start puking it out. I had 120,000 miles then and now almost 200,000 miles on the odometer.

I took it to Cummins for a manometer test the following week and it passed with flying colors. It hasn't given me any more trouble in over 2 years. I always let the truck set overnight before adding oil if I can help it.

Hope that helps.
