Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) a Q about injection pumps

Allright, while changing my oil I decided to grab the exposed turbo shaft (removed rubber boot to get to filter) and low and behold it has quite a bit of wiggle in it. I would think I should not be able to wiggle it side to side at all but I can, not enough to bind it up but enough that you don't need any fancy instruments to see the movement. The big question is... ... . Can I buy a PDRHX35 under the legitimate excuse that the old one needs replacing? Of course DD2's and a new trans will quickly follow... . In my twisted mind I need to justify (to myself not the wife) any upgrades for the CTD. Follow me here. The turbo is bad so I should upgrade when replacing. I'll need bigger injectors to take advantage of the new turbo. The trans won't hold the additional power I HAVE to put through it. See logical isn't it. Just nod your head and tell me I need a new $4500. 00 turbo (HE HE HE):--)

Actually, i think some play is normal. Doesn't the oil fill those voids under operation? I thought it created a thin "film" for the shaft to ride on and that is why the space is left when it is not spinning. Oh, but you definately need a new one;)

Look ... guys ... the right answer for tractorface here is "Wow, that baby is about to blow. Better get on the phone with Mark @ PDR & get one on order fast. Or send yours up for Piersification & exhaust housing selection. "

Hows that ;)

Sounds Unanimous

Ok now that I am Certain I have a serious problem;) The next step is to ask the local guys about a good place to have work done. I usually do all my own work but since I recently sold my Home and will be Homeless until probably March I would like to find a decent shop nearby. I live in Northern Harford County MD. Any one no of a nearby place to take my baby and have her... . fixed;)

Need decent transmission shop to install a Goerand tranyy or a good DTT or ATS installer nearby to install one of thier transmission's (see I am flexible, its all about the installer)

I can manage a driveway Turbo/injector install if need be but as busy as I am a good local installer would be appreciated. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

how do you get $4500 for a PDRhx35????

or is that the turbo, injectors and transmission upgrades???

You got it Fueler. One thing leads to another and before you know it poof :--) $4500. 00 plus.

Not to burst your bubble, but $4500 won't cut it for a full transmission upgrade, the PDR HX-40 that you ought to get (cause the 2's won't be enough, you'll at least need 3's or super mentals) and the injectors. Plus, you've got to have a 4" exhaust for the flow to work right ;)

I'd say $5500-$6000 ought to cover it. $4500 is just starting on the transmission and maybe one little thing.

OMG MAN ! soooo sorry to hear about the turbo

& I'm sure your injectors are so gummrd up w/ crap ya probably need those too didn't you notice the mpg droppin ??? & that trans , oh my it's a wonder it that someone hasn't renamed it the re47 slip & slide

ok so here's what you need too do & like right now b4 anything else gets damaged

1- PDRHX40 , ( 35 too small a shaft , this could happen again )

2- injectors BD4's , something w/ a big opening too let the gunk flow past the tip w/o gettin clogged

& 3- OMG #3 that Slip-N-Slide need I say more ( ATS DTT pick one )

4-M-35 Rockwells too turn that rubber since the old diff is sure too be on it's last leg too

Your Total ( Drum Roll Please )

$9500. 00 +tx

GO 4 IT !

OK so how did I do ? maybe I should have left out the total

HIT THE DECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sheez gonna blow! Drive it as little as possible! The passenger may or may not need their knees some day and you can jepordize their knees! Oh the humanity! Get one of those Pinwheel Destruct Reduction system 40 turbos everyone is talkin' bout!

TZ that help?

Yeah, that turbo you have is difinately shot. Why don't you send it to me to throw out for you, and you go get your self a nice shiny new one!:D

I'd like to suggest that you get the new turbo, then sell, or give me your old worn out one. Mine's about to turn 300k and your old worn out one would probably last longer than mine. That's what I'd like to suggest. I'd be happy to pick it up when in the area.

Yup, she's p00ched for sure... ... hats off gentlemen... a moment of silence ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

If I'm not mistaken the turbo shaft rides on a film of oil between it and the bearing AND the bearing rides on a film of oil between it and the housing,, assuming a traditional bearing and not ballbearings... ... but I'm just a rookie so don't take my word for it...

remind your wife that inside your turbo theres a thing that resembles a ninja death star, and that when they let loose... ... well lets just say it isn't pretty, so actual by buying a new one your looking out for the well being of everyone.
