My extended warranty expires in March 2007. I have a 2000 quad cab with the 47RE . I know that Mopar does not "approve" of them but I'm getting only 20k

on a set of front brrake pads. The truck is not a daily driver and has only 75k on it. I also know that I wouldl need some sort of smart lock for the trans.

I'm only pulling a 5000 lb boat/trailer but sure would like an exhaust brake for those downhills. That said, what are the opinions of Banks, Pac-brake, & B-D

products?

Also, what about the valve return springs. Would they have to be changed out. ? Exhaust system need to be changed/enlarged at the same time?

Thanks in advance :

I have a BD turbo mount brake and BD Autoloc on my '98 and have been pretty happy with it. I converted the Autoloc to behave more like a "TorqueLoc", with consultation with BD Tech staff, to allow it to force lock-up when desired. I tried the BD TowLoc on it but found some conflicts with the Calif. smog that caused DTC's sometimes, so I swapped back despite the greater versitility of the TowLoc. I also installed 60# valve springs but believe that's not needed on the 24V engines.

I have a friend with a BD brake and Towloc on his '05 and he is quite satisfied with it. Mine is vacuum controlled and his is air compressor operated.

Many on this site swear by the Pac Brake.

Do a search on exhaust brakes and you'll find plenty of reading and opinions. If you tow with an e-brake for awhile, I doubt you will ever want to go back.

Yes SNOKING, you are doing something wrong. Don't you know that you are not supposed to hit your brakes when coming up on stopped traffic until 20 feet away  ;) Earlier this year I bought new pads, figured at 78000 would be time to replace. Pulled the wheels, plenty of pad still left. So now I have new ones still sitting in the shop.

Was thinking about an exhaust brake but only tow about 7500lbs and the DTT holds it back very nicely on the downhills.

I agree with danavilla. I have the BD towloc and I'm very pleased with it. It doesn't set any codes and I have a CA truck.

I would also recommend that you change your stock torque converter out for something stronger when using the exhaust brake. When I was forced to "reblock" my 53 series Cummins, I had the shop install a BD torque converter. The complete package works very well.

No springs needed changing and I only went to the 4" SS muffler for an increase in performance and great sound! You can stick with your standard 3" muffler with the BD after turbo bolt-on since it is a 3" elbow.

W0W... 20k on pads..... though,i used to get about 35k when i had an auto trans... . with my 6spd. and Pacbrake i get 85k+ from the front, and i had 184k on the original rear shoes!!!!... . and STILL had not reached the rivets... . by all means shoot for an exhaust brake... . best investment you can make... just make sure your auto trans can handle it... . a beefed-up auto and exhaust brake would make for a real nice ride!!!

good luck... ... ... ... ... tom
