Hi,

Does anyone have recommendations for having an exhaust brake installed in the Seattle area? Also about what price range will I be looking at approximately? I have a 03 Ram 2500 CTD

Thanks

Greg

I think Peak Diesel is near you. Look them up. You have an auto so you'll need to install a lock up torque converter switch if I remember correctly. You have a choice between a turbo mount and remote mount. All the remote mount I've seen were air operated. I personally chose a turbo mount, as I know I'm not going to change turbos, and was a Cummins item (came in a Cummins box). I like things simple and I've never had a single issue for the 7 years that is on. I love it.
So mine is the OEM vacuum operated Jacobs brake. I bought also the Cummins shifter mounted switch. I paid around $800 for all including new turbo gaskets. This was the best price I found then.
I hope this helps and you get the one that'll work best for you. The best thing will be to drive a truck that has the brake you like on it so you can feel how well it works for you.

I've go t the PAC and like it ($1200?) and for this you get a compressed air source. One benefit of this over the Jake is that if the compressor fails, it wont leave you sitting on the side of the road. Of course you can alleviate this issue if you carry a spare standard belt. I personally feel the Pac or any other brand is more reliable - Just my opinion after lots of reading. Again, just an opinion and others will disagree.

You'll get a response from our local blow-hard soon and you can take that advice for what it's worth.

No matter what brand you get you'll be happy with the performance.
Dynamic Diesel in Monroe Wa. is a good shop to do business with.

Greg,

PAC Brake headquarters is located just across the border in Surrey, B. C. The extra drive from Seattle is worth the professional install. I live in Bellingham, but made the mistake of having a local shop instal my Pac Brake... after chasing leaks and other problems realted to the install, I drove the 20 minutes to Surrey. Great shop, great people, was there less than a 1/2 hr and on my way home... NO CHARGE!! I plan on going again soon to have airbags installed. These guys are the pros... it's all they do so they're very proficient at their work. ~ My 2 cents ~

AFAIK, the earlier 48 does not have the reverse thrust capability to use an exhaust brake. This was corrected in the '06 model year.
