I am looking for an exhaust brake for my 99. I was wondering if I can get some opinions on what brake works the best on these trucks. Has anyone tried the new pac brake? Is it really that much better? What do you have & does it work well?

You will get a lot of different opinions on this subject. lol I have run both a Pac Brake and a BD brake on the same truck. Both work well in the upper rpm range, but the BD brake works much better from 2k rpm down to idle.

I just replaced my Jacobs E brake with the Pacbrake PRXB, and I really like it. The air actuates the brake much faster than the vacuume, and the PRXB has as much braking from 2000 rpm down to 1000 rpm as the Jacobs did from 2600 down to 2000. From 2000 down the Jacobs wasn't too whippy.

I changed because the vacuume pump on the Jacobs went out on me twice in 220K mi. , which isn't bad, but I got the PRXB for just a little more than the pump cost me. The reason it wasn't much more was because I already had the air comp. for my air ride. The people at Pacific Brake and Clutch give great service.

I've been very happy with my Pac-Brake, it's not one of the new ones, but when my buddy re-searched them we both felt is was one of the best engineered ones.

I'll throw in my vote for the pac brake. I have the turbo mounted one on my 2000 installed since 2004 (about 45,000 miles ago). It has functioned very good. I had the vacuum solenoid go out once and had to order a new one. Other than that it works great.

Dont know about any of the other brands.

Do you have a manual transmission or an auto? The brakes that work at lower RPM would be better suited to the manuals. OK, looked at your profile and saw Clutch, so go for the new PACBRAKE. SNOKING

Do a search for e-brake problems and go from there. I have 106,000 miles on my Jacob with no problems of any kind. And it is used ALL the time.

Got da BD brake for ah couple of years now. Great no problems. Had it installed in line. Cuz I gots da twins now.

That leads me to my next question. I am looking at upgrading my turbo soon also, maybe ht or phat shaft. So should I get the in line brake, or get the turbo/ with mounted brake? Too many choices for me, but you guys are very helpful. Thanks & keep em' cummins.

I've had a Jacobs brake for a couple of years, use it alot, works great. I'm now considering a turbo upgrade. If I keep my exhaust elbow as is, them I'm limited to the HX35 exhaust housing, not the best selection. Turbos, exhaust brakes, and exhausts have to work together. The ideal would be to plan the whole set. The expense is daunting, but doing it only once and getting it right is cost effective.

Like the BD brake because of its power at lower RPM's. Use it ALL the time also. No problems with it. Just wish it was a 4" inline model instead of a turbo mount unit.

Wish my 4in. inline BD wuz 5 inches. Now when I want to upgrade from a 4in. exhaust to a 5in. it wont be a true 5in. straight pipe.

Everything I've read and heard is that if you have a 4in exhaust and think you may upgrade/change your turbo then go with the inline brake.

Sig line says it. We grossed over 21k combined traveling across country relocating to Georgia and it was flawless. I highly recommend the PacBrake. If you are planning big turbo and exhaust upgrades, then you might want to consider the inline type instead.

Depending on how wild your gonna go the next step is a 2003-2004. 5 3. 75" i believe(4" i guess they call it). Cummins in Phx quoted one to me for 650-700 for the kit. 2004. 5-2006 for 5" and big bucks.

If twins are in your future then go inline

BTW cummins had jacobs

i,ve had both and back psi seem the same high or low rpm but pacbrake actuated faster i like that
