I know that DC put out a bulletin not to use exhaust brakes on 98 auto's, but they seem to say alot that people dont agree with.

If i beef up the transmission can I use an exhaust brake? Are any of you guys running them on your autos and if so what brand? Thanxs in advance.

I put nearly 70,000 miles on a '97 3500 auto with a PacBrake using a "mystery switch" towing a heavy 5th wheel. The biggest disadvantage is that it will not lock up the torque converter only hold it locked. Also it only works on third gear or overdrive and you cannot shift down with the TC locked. If in third gear with the PacBrake is on, and the TC is locked, and you are going too fast, you must unlock the TC, shift manually to second gear, and with the exhaust brake on, the transmission heats up rapidly.

If you want an exhaust brake setup on the automatic transmission that works like it should, call Bill K.

Doodad, I have a 96 auto with a Pacbrake. I also have a DTT Smart Control along with a valve body and TC from them. Bill Kondolay will help you make the correct choice for your application and use. I urge you to give him call.

This past July while going south on a trip, my exhaust brake and Bill K's Smart Control saved my butt big time. Even if you decide not to make a move at this time the information you receive from Bill will allow you to make that choice an informed one. Good luck. J. R.
