I am getting close to a Pacbrake for my 96' . I have the DTT 91% TCand VB setup. I know that typically for an E brake to work effectively the TC must remain locked. What then does the Smart Controller do that can not be done with a "mystery" lock up switch?

Also, I remember being told that an Exhaust brake was not reccomended for an auto because of the increased stress on the TC and the wear on the seals in the engine. What truth, if any is there to this??

If you use your head a three position mystery switch will work fine. However, with your 47RE transmission, the Smart Controller does a lot more than just maintain a lock on the TCC. It allows you to set OD and lockup shift points. It also controls unlock points in D and 2nd.

Do a search. There have been at least 2 Smartcontroller threads around here recently where the operation was discussed.
