I am planning on installing an exhaust brake on my 2004. 5 6sp. I am looking at the Jacobs / Mopar exhaust brake with the thought that there is less chance of any horror stories about having warranty issues using a Mopar product The quote I received from the dealer today was $750, which seems pretty reasonable to me. I am however having difficulties locating pricing comparisons online.

Any thoughts or input?

Thanks-

Tim

The price seems reasonable compared to other after market brands. Will that dealer do the install for you as well since you have warranty concerns?

Yes, the quote of $750 was installed. I am not sure if that includes an actuator switch on the shifter, I've heard thats an extra.

$750 Installed???? Jake???? No way.

I think the kit is more than that. Getting out the door for under $1000 installed is unheard of... well not the most frequently quoted price.

I agree. The best price I was able to get for the brake alone is slightly over 1000 dollars. I see no way it can be installed for 750. 00. Make sure they are quoting you the price for the right year. Here are the part numbers you need for an 04. 5. Mopar part number 82208835AB, or see the nearest Cummins Distributor and order Cummins part number 4089924.

Jacobs Exhaust brake and NV5600.

I paid a tad over $1100 bucks installed for my Cummins approved Jacobs exhaust brake. I ordered the NV5600 with the sole intention of installing the exhaust brake. The brake is pretty quiet with a stock intake. With the AFE and a Muffler Elimination kit from Geno's the exhaust brake sounds a whole lot better. I strongly recommend the Jacobs/Cummins Exhaust brake.

Go Jake !!!

If you were quoted $750 for your Jake installed, go for it! The Jake kit for my '05 (which includes the shifter stalk switch, BTW) was about $1,100 from my friendly Dodge dealer. It came in a Cummins box. Installation took me about 3-1/2 hours (jake brake, solenoid package, vacuum pump, new serpentine belt, stalk switch, wiring harness, relay and vacuum lines). It does wire into the 50-pin "B" connector on your ECM and a 32-pin connector on the driver's side firewall. NOTE: Be careful handling that coated shim steel gasket that goes between the turbo and the Jake, its VERY delicate and does not tolerate any kind of abrasion, impact or twisting during installation (I should know, I buggered one up and had to buy a replacement gasket from Cummins for a whopping $31. 00, Ouch !!!). To prevent this mistake from repeating itself, I dropped the headpipe on my 2nd install attempt, then "practiced" lining up the Jake with the turbo a few times with the damaged gasket until I got all the moves down right. Believe me, its real easy to destroy that gasket if the Jake slightly hits the turbo while you are aligning the dowel pins. Take your time with this step, and definitely think ahead with all of your moves when joining the Jake to the turbo! Other than that little setback, the rest of the installation is straight forward. The Jake works great and there are absolutely NO exhaust leaks. It sounds pretty cool with an aFe Stage-1 / Torque Tube combo too!

The PRXB is at least 20% better braking than Jake (2000 rpm"s or less). Warm up time is cut in Have,It is way superior to the Jake at this TIME. The applications are entirely different,I like the PAC the compressor is right up front,Also you have more options with the Pacbrake. I like the BANKS when off road or race applications.

My Pac Brake is powered by an electric air compressor mounted on the engine (no belt). I really like the stopping power of this brake. I also now have a small on board compressor and tank for my air bags!

I am looking real hard at an 06. Was quoted 1600-1800 installed. I have one on my 01 and really like it. I think I need to shop around a bit.

Someone mentioned that the Jacobs unit was powered by engine vacuum... . please note that this brake is powered by a vacuum pump that needs to be mounted on the front of the engine... .

The PacBrake PRXB is there latest design and will provide at least 20% more retarding HP at below 2200 rpm than the others... its powered by compressed air. . and comes with an air compressor that now mounts on the front of the engine... . with the optional air tank you can power air horns, and/or air bags... Currently we have a $30. 00 rebate going on the PRXB through the end of the year.....

Hope this helps.....

This thread hit the target for me. I was wondering about this myself this morning. Jim from Pacific Clutch & Pac-Brake has great pricing on a Pac-Brakes and the company is very knowledgeable. His member name on TDR is jelag. Send him a private message to see what he can set up.

Hey there Jim, I bought your standard PacBrake for my 05 last year, I'm wondering if it would be worth it for me upgrade to the PacBrake PRXB?

Could you please PM me about the cost?

On Edit: I'm thinking the PBXR would be a direct replacement at the elbow downpipe area and the rest of the brake (compressor and all) stays in place?

BTW I'm very happy with the standard brake. I'm just curious if the cost will outweigh the benefit.

Thanks Jim!
