OK, I am new to the diesel truck ranks. I just purchased my 03 CTD HO, QC, LWB truck used (18k miles) two months ago. This is my first diesel truck and I love it!! But I read that I should have an exhaust brake since I tow a heavy trailer (28' Jayco 5th wheel) in the mountains. Sooo why can't I use the exhaust brake with the auto trans? If I need it to be sure I can get DOWN the hill safely my CTD pulled me UP. I am asking because before long I am gonna be RETIRED and traveling and don't want to have problems.

I just got back from a 700 mile trip and the CTD was truly awesome. It pulled two of the steepest grades in Oregon (cabbage hill and Ladd canyon) with no problems at all. Maybe when I get the EDGE EZ installed it will be even better!

I know all of you TDR guys out there have the answers so please help me out if you would.

Thanks!!

I've had a pacbrake on my 03 since nov. last year. I hardly tow with it, but I always leave the brake on (for winter warmup).

I haven't had any problems yet w/ the transmission, and I have to say pacbrake is a great company. I had my air cyl go bad and after a 5 minute call I have a new one on the way, and they didn't even ask me to prove when I bought brake.
