my exhaust brake seem to work fine till about 55 mph and then quits is this normal? this was not on auto and trans was in normal drive not haul tow.

Hmm... Can't say as I never used the EB without TH. Maybe next time I'm out I'll give it a try. Sure doesn't seem like it should turn off at 55.

This does not sound normal. On my 2012 the exhaust brake works anytime the engine rpms are over 1000. Not sure what you mean by it was not on auto. Mine is either enabled or turned off by a push button.

Without TH on and in full it seems to only work in the top gears and does not shift down. In tow haul is shifts down and continues to brake. SNOKING

Mine works at any speed as long as the RPMs are over 1000 (I think it may be closer to 1050) and whether T/H is enabled or not and in both Full and Auto mode. It'll drop down through the gears too without T/H though not nearly as aggressive.

Well, I tried this today. EB without TH. The EB does stop at about 55. Going 60mph my rpms were about 1200 or so. So it doesn't take much for the rpm's to drop to about 1100rpm (on my gauge anyway-may be a little lower-can't tell the exact rpm) and the EB turns off. The rpm's never goes above about 1100 rpm's again while stopping, so the EB never turns back on. The only way to get the EB to assist with braking is to turn on the TH. This causes the transmission to down shift pretty actively while slowing down. This raises the rpm's above 1100 or so in every gear as it downshifts and the EB turns back on each time. I use my EB in the Auto mode along with TH as I must press the brake peddle to get the EB to turn on. As opposed to EB in the Full mode along with TH which turns the EB on every time I let off the gas peddle.

So. IMO the EB doesn't really do anything much without using the TH too.

All this is discussed in the Diesel Supplement manual under DIESEL EXHAUST BRAKE

If I chop the throttle at highway speeds (including 55+ mph), my EB will engage down to maybe 20 mph before it cuts out due to low RPM (unless I downshift manually to keep the rpms up). This is without TH on. With TH on and not actually towing anything, the downshifting can be too abrupt and more braking than I desire so I don't run it that way.

I have noticed my EB is MUCH more aggressive with the AISIN trans then the 68 RFE. Even when not in T/H mode, it down shifts slightly and keeps slowing down. With T/H on, holy cow...This truck, even empty acts like I threw the anchor out and applied the brakes.. Maybe cause its under 500 miles, but I'm impressed so far. Fingers crossed it stays the same..;)

Like others have said, my EB works fine until about 1100 rpms.....and I don't bother with T/H unless I am towing.
