My apologies in advance for re-hashing an old subject... . I am getting ready to do my first upgrades to the new truck and need some opinions. I want to put on an exhaust brake and have narrowed it down to the Cummins/Jacob E-brake or the PacBrake... anybody have experience with either one, does one work better than the other? Thanks!

Exhaust brake

I have used the Jacobs/Cummins brake for at least 6 or 7 years and approximately 250,000 km. The only problem I have had is the time delay relay that operates the brake failed. I took the failed relay apart and found that moisture had gotten inside the relay and the connections corroded. I then remounted the relay in a waterproof box. I have had no trouble with the brake since this fix. The exhaust brake is a great add on. I have 315,000 km. on the truck and I am still on the original brakes. When towing my fiver with a GCVW of 19600 lbs. I can maintain a safe speed on most declines with very little braking.

I installed a PacBrake, got about 5000 miles on it and it works great. First trip with it was to Tahoe and back on Hwy 395, it's worth 10 times the money. The install is easy and I made up a switch for the gear shift. I think mounting a switch on the dash is a bit hard to use since your hand is on the stick most of the time. :D

PacBrake

Hope you don't need internal parts, if you go for the PacBrake. .

I'm still steamed over their refusal to sell us parts! (see my previous post)
