Well, I'm finally tired of it! I put my pyro after the turbo because I was short on time and figured that the "conversion" to standard pre-turbo standard temps wouldn't be that bad. Well, over the last year and a-half, adding 200-250 degrees or 10 degrees for each lb of boost (24 psi at this time) that kind of stuff. I know, these conversions aren't perfect as there is a certain amount of error for each way of doing it. I'm done with it... ..... I'll do what I should have in the begining... ...

Here's my question. What is the material of the exhaust down tube? I will have to remove my pyro and weld the hole in the down tube to move it to the pre-turbo location. I'm guessing that it is stainless but I wanted to verify that with somebody.

Has anybody else done this change-out before??

I'm taking suggestions/ideas also... ..... bring em' on- maybe there are ideas that would eliviate welding (although welding gives me the most secure feeling).

Thanks and blessed Thanksgiving to all, Rich

Rich,

Can you simply install a pipe plug in the fitting?

That's what I would do.

In the marine industry it is very common to have a fitting made into the exhaust elbow and plugged.

The elbow on the 270 Cummins in my boat is made that way. There's been a plug in it for three years so far and it's fine.

(That will change soon as I will be installing a pyro there in the spring).

How about putting a pipe plug in the hole after you remove the pyro probe from the downpipe.

(DOH, ya beat me to it Jay:D )

The downpipe on my 92 is not stainless. I cut and welded it myself for my 12cm/wastegate turbo-no problem. My friend has an 89 that came stock with stainless. In any case stainless is easy to weld.

Rich,

I would probably put a pipe plug in it, but if you want I could weld it up for you.

I also have the tap for doing your manifold if you need it.

Give me a call sometime,

Caleb

Thanks for all the replies gentlemen! The set up for the pyro into the down tube is a hole drilled into the down tube, a soft metal washer that seals the "joint" between a flange on the pyro and the down tube. The pyro is held down with a hose clamp around the down tube. This is the method that Diesel Injection Service had in place for the install.

With that said, it looks like I will ask Boatpuller to weld a pipe fitting (we live near each other) onto the down tube so that I can put a pipe plug into the fitting. That way I would have the option of using that "hole" again if needed.

Thanks again for the discussion... ... I appreciate it!
