Has anyone done a 5 or 4 inch alluminized exhaust with muffler for the 03? (single)

What price did you get with/without tip, and what seems to be the favorite between the two? Are there any drawbacks to either one performance wise?

I am looking at the Dynaflow aluminized " for my dually, they want $650 for it ??

Trying to get some guidance, sounds kind of high to me, but I do want quality system.

Thanks for any info

You may want to check out the DPP exhaust if your looking for quality. It comes standard with a rolled edges 5" polished SS tip. It's the easiest system I have ever installed and is all 14g with pre-welded SS hanger. Sound at the tail pipe rocks but yet it's not any louder in the cab and NO DRONE! You can check it ou here. http://www.dieselperformanceparts.com/dodgealum2.html

Email or PM me for a price on it if you want, be more than happy to help.

2003, 4" exhaust

We have found an easy and inexpensive way to improve the exhaust and make it 4" most of the way with a 4" straight through muffler. This is done by simply replacing the second intermiate pipe and muffler.

To make this exhaust change the first intermiate pipe is rolled 180 degrees so the bend is up and the second intermiate pipe is replaced with a Ford FDIP98-1 which goes from 3. 5" to 4". The bend of the new pipe is also turned up, this gets the inlet elevation of the muffler to the same elevation as the stock tail pipe so a straight through muffler can be used. Next the stock tail pipe will need to be cut to remove the 3. 5" portion from the stock muffler outlet. Now the stock tail pipe will fit the straight through muffler outlet.

Below is a hand sketch of the stock and modified exhaust. Sorry it is so hard to see. Email me and I can send a better sketch to anyone who is interested.

The question I have first, is should I even get a new exhaust, because the stock is 4" isn't it. Bang for buck is what I'm looking for in HP, sound I dont' really care about, cause it's not a V8.

If I spend 500-600 bucks and get 20 HP, then I'll sink that money into something else, I think temp is the reason to go with new exhaust, am I right on this one?

It seems the stock exhaust is actually pretty good, but the muffler appears to be very restrictive. With only changing the muffler and second intermiate pipes we have seen significant improvement in performance and lower EGTs.

DPP

I really like my DPP exhaust. Not loud, but has some sound to it. I bought a db meter from Radio Shack and tested before and after. No louder cruising, but 3 dbs louder at WOT. It seems to take the noise from the front and put it in the back. My db meter measures from 32 to 10,000 htz and I get 85 dbs cruising at 70 mph before and after.

Anyone in my area that wants to hear it, let me know.

Thanks for the help guys, it helps with my decision that I'll make soon.

What would a guy go to the 5" over the 4" for? What advantages are there?

for the  factor  :p , and never having to upgrade the exhaust if you decided to go mental and need as much power as that engine can make ;):-laf

Well, the stock system is a 3. 5" from the turbo to the muffler, then 4" after that. Don't expect any HP from an exhaust on a Cummins, just EGT help. If this is your first mod, start with fueling and gauges.

Exhaust system

Turbojet, check out Rip rook at www.prointnw.com, I have a 4" S/S from him and it sounds awesome and definitely helps the exhaust temps. If you dont have guages yet I recommend getting them, check out diesel injection service in Tx, Great prices!. I will help you install them in July.

Also you have a PM.
