On my 2001, this is the first winter I've experienced this problem. I turn on my heater and I'm getting pretty strong diesel exhaust/fumes/scent coming through the vents inside the cab. Where do I look for a leak and how do I fix this one? I believe there might be a leak where the exhaust meets the turbo, but I need to confirm. Is this a known problem on the 2nd Gen trucks?

It is probably coming from around the turbo connections and entering the AC drain. Check the "v" clamps on the exhaust elbow and you could add an extension hose on the AC drain to get it away from the exhaust area. bg

I don't know if you figured this out already since you posted this a few months back - but I just wanted to add that these engines are also known for breaking the exhaust manifold bolts that are holding the manifold to the head. I've got some that are broken on my 99 but haven't fixed them because after the engine warms up for a couple minutes they quit smelling up the cab. I assume that they seal up after the manifold gets hot.
