I have a 1998 12V, auto trans. 4x4, Quad cab. The problem is when the truck is idling while stopped, I can smell exhaust fumes if the heat, defrost, vent, or A/C is on, however If max A/C is selected I cannot smell the fumes presumably because the fan is re-circulating interior air in that mode. Additionally, once the truck is moving the smell of exhaust fumes goes away. I have looked at the turbo joints, flanges, and exhaust manifold and haven’t found any signs of cracks or leakage. So I was hoping that perhaps somebody else may have run into this and figured out the problem. Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Are you saying you have this problem with the windows closed? If so it has to be a small exhaust leak, probably at the manifold to head area. Look closely at the flanges, especially the lower areas that are not so easy to see.
