Exhaust Gas Temp Gauge reading High

Hello can anybody help on my exhaust temp gauage. It's reading 250-300 degrees hotter than normal. when at idle and freeway cruise, and everywhere inbetween. I have jacobs exh brake and that seems to be working normal have pricol gauge and sending unit is pre turbo and have had no problems since install. now have 70,000 miles. could it be just sensor going bad, or maybe just clean it. If I use vom meter should that tell me if it's defective much thanks in advance.

Is your boost running about the same?

A boost leak could drive EGT up AFAIK.

I figured I had a boost leak somewhere as I noticed my temps were up about 200F from normal anytime I accelerated and about 100F while cruising; my boost #s were down also. I inspected the charge hose (between turbo and cooler) and found 4 tears. I bought complete set but have only replaced the one that was torn. Boost/egt's went back to normal. However, unlike you, my idle temps were pretty much unchanged. I would check for leaks before looking into gauges.

Well went this morning checked for bad hoses found none, started it up and listened for any hissing none put in Drive w/e-brake on and slowly pushed down on accelerator everything was normal. so I'm going to unscrew the sending unit and take a look maybe has a chunk of soot on it.

Is your exhaust brake opening fully?

If you have ISSO PRO gauges, it may be your amp box that went bad. I had the exact same thing happen to me with mine and it turned out that the little box between the gauge and everything else was bad.

everything worked fine I did spray exh. brake linkage w/jetlube 769 thanks all, coastyav8r what type of bird do you fly.

Coastyav8r, many years ago w/my cfi he let me navigate around Ft. Lewis Wa. and there was a C130 for some reason heading right for us Great experiance for a student. I used to have a 46 Ercoupe and then a 41 T-craft been thinking about LiteSport to get back into it. later
