Currently with the 14 cm housing I am getting around 35 lbs of boost, but EGTs are a tad high, and require a bit of monitoring, which I know is expected with the 14. I still have plenty of turns to go on the full fuel screw, but I don't want to add any more fuel at my current EGT levels. So here is my question: Should I change to the 16 cm housing? I know this will lower boost levels, but it will also lower EGTs. Can I make up for the lost boost with the fuel screw???? If I had a 16cm laying around I would just give it a shot, but before I lay out any cash I'd like some opinions. Been mullling this over in my head for awhile, and thought I's see what you guys think. My opinion is that I may be able to compensate for the lost boost of the larger housing with more fuel, which will bring some of the boost back, but I don't really believe that I will be able to gain anything over where I am now. Or maybe I'm going down the wrong road here?

TIA

AJ

Well I think you have the right idea in general... . remember... fuel generates EGT's and higher boost levels.

So, if you lower EGT's by going to a 16cm housing (which it will do) and then you add more fuel you'll find yourself headed back up to were you didn't want to be.

If you go to the 16cm you will see about 2-3psi less boost. This is not a bad thing... you only need enough boost to burn the fuel as fully as possible right...

So, install the 16cm and, drive it for a week or so as is... .

Then compare your numbers regarding boost/EGT etc.

If you find that you have gained some ground on the EGT's then you can tweak the timing up a tad, if you haven't already done that.

Adding some timing will also help with EGT's, improve throttle response time, help lower smoke, and THEN try a touch of fuel... .

Use the AFC spring to set the point were you have your fueling increase come on... . the spring controls 'when' your "fuel per pound of boost" starts and how fast it climbs.

Use the spring to delay the onset of fueling increase until you have a tad more boost built up... that will also help keep your smoke down and help control your EGT's a bit as well because the turbo is "up on boost" before the juice hits the piston.

Try that...

bob... .

Or

Here's an idea... ...

Try my Rx; Fill that combustion chamber with all the fuel you can... . before boost comes on and you'll likely be getting a knock on your door from one of the town council members... ... .

Asking if you could drive your truck through the center of town late at night to keep the skeeters down  :p LMAO-ROF

Sum-X's I surprise myself

PB,

Timing has already been done, and the Starwheel is up 4 turns from stock. Although it still smokes like a freight train, which is fine by me. I have been meaning to back off the starwheel even further, just haven't gotten around to it. I would probably take 2-3 lbs less boost if I could lower EGT's and then dump in more go-juice!

Greenleaf,

If you need help with skeeters, lemme know, the old $#%&box would make a good fogger, and I've never been to Ohio... ... ROADTRIP!!

Thanks for the ideas

AJ

Hey... No Problem!!:D If you need some specific ideas, go back a few days and check out the list of item I submitted on Mopar Man 1's thread; It's A Dog!

Ya gotta fuel right before ya spool... .

too much delay just ain't cool,

but it sure does make the powerjokes drool!:D

Sorry... been a looooong morning.

AJ,

if the 16 dont work, it may be time for a turbo upgrade. The H1C is out of its efficeincy range at 35psi, so no matter how much you cut your fuel, you only have so far to go before you need a PDR HX35, one of the many HX40 hybridizing options available, etc, etc, that can handle the extra boost and still be efficient.

Daniel

Daniel,

I've been pondering that too. I think I need to buy the wife some stuff first though. After all the time/money I've spent on the truck lately, she's feeling a little neglected.

AJ

If she's feeling neglected, get her one of here own. :-laf Or does she have one already? Flowers always worked for me, uh, make that usually, at least. Tell her the stuff needs replaced- she doesnt want you to be stranded somewhere because you roasted your turbo or engine, does she? If so, it may be time to find a lawyer.

Lol- No AJ, tell her the truth, that we all at the TDR forum are always trying to outdo each other and that the turbo is the first thing on the list :D If that doesn't work what I would do then is pull out some of that hard earned $$ and throw her some change for the bus and tell her to go watch a movie... always, well usually works for me :p

LOL Whatever you do, don't pay any attention to me ;)

P. S. It's a damn good thing she doesn't do message boards ;)

Luckily she's good humored. Daniel: I've tried to talk her into a 2000 or so 24v swb 4x4 extended cab auto (not what I would chose for myself, but marriage is one big compromise), but she's scared of driving something that big. I guess eventually I'll have to buy her a car..... Carl: I could tell her to go watch a movie, but she'd probably just go rent one. Fact is I have NEVER taken her to a movie theater, believe it or not... Good lookin' and low maintenance, just the combo I need. She let's me do about whatever I want with the truck, but since I'm the main bread winner, I feel guilty not spreading the wealth and letting her have some of the fun money once in a while. Forrest: I agree with you, I like the tinkering, so I'll probably give it a shot, and see if it helps me out any.

AJ

PS She's reading this over my shoulder laughing at me and saying all she wants is an area rug, some curtains, and a couple chairs for the front room. I think that equals AT LEAST a turbo, don't you think??

Good lookin' AND low maintenance? Where the heck did you find her? Dude, I'd believe you right away if you said you saw a UFO makin crop circles or Bigfoot chasing a farmer's cattle, but I'm having a hard time taking your word here ;) LOL

Sounds like you hit the jackpot, good for you :) I'd be goin to get that area rug, curtains and chairs like right now and I'd throw a rose in there too! With my wife I feel like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible every time i wanna add something to my truck Haha

Enjoy what you got goin there bud, I'm jealous :)
