Other than the numbers that are sometimes stamped on the hot housing how can one tell what the size of the exhaust housing is. Is there away to measure it? I have a large turbo off of a 3406 that I am using for a primary and was trying to figure out the size.

Thanks

Malcolm

3406, eh? I think that is a Garret/Schwietzer turbo, and they go by A/R ratio... Should be cast into it somewhere.

Its fairly difficult to convert A/R ratio into cm², which is what makes most sense to Cummins folk. :D

Even though its not truck-related, there more info here: Turbo Info

Enjoy!

turbo size

Thanks for the info Evan, good reading. I am running this turbo on my home made twin set up now. I am only reaching about 45-50 psi of boost with the wastegate held closed. I guess I need more fuel now. The responce is great and it pulles much harder now.

Thanks again

tubo model

There is no real identifying marks on the housing other than a cat part number. I can take a few pics of the exhaust housing. There are some numbers on it. I think you are right about being a Garret/Schwietzer turbo.

Some pics of the turbo would be great, especially of the part numbers on the turbine and compressor side. :D

On another note, we need to chat sometime about the 24V/GM swap. I got a '94 GMC 3500 with a dead 6. 5L in need of a transplant. Truck's got about 75K on it, and the owner is selling it to us for like three grand, as-is. No bad, eh? So one of our extracurricular projects is to put a 24V with a 6-speed in there. We'd like to keep the IFS if possible, what do you think?

The Swap

I will add some pic to my readers rigs. As for the swap you should be able to keep the IFS. The only problem I see is the IFS diff mounts to the motor mount pedistals. I cut these off the frame and made all new mounts. Three grand is a great deal. You can sell alot of the 6. 5 parts fairly easily.

Edit: Pics now on readers rigs

cm2?

What does the CM2 size mean and how does one measure it?

I know it relates to the turbine housing, is it the exhuast opening?

Thanks
