my #6 exhaust manifold runner gasket is sticking out about an 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch. I can not hear an exhaust leak. Can you hear an exhaust leak on a diesel? I am just wondering if I should go ahead and replace the exhaust gaskets. Will one leaking exhaust runner cause a spool up time to take longer?

My front two gaskets were leaking, but I did not realize how loud it was till I replaced them all sunday. Truck is now much nicer to listen to. The job is fairly easy and the gaskets are only $6. 00. I could not tell you if it helps spool up, roads here are to icy to stomp on it.

The exhaust manifold bolts on the CTD have a tendency to loosen on some rigs, once they do they continue to do so again, it's something else to check every once in a while, just like the intake hose clamps. Loose bolt may have caused your gasket to blow.

 I am new to TDR, but found a leak in my #1 runner (?). Front gasket. It looks easy enough to replace. Can I just take all 12 bolts loose and replace all 6 gaskets one at a time? The bolts holding #1 were definitely loose. Any advice would be good before I decide to hand it to a dealer.

Replaced my #1 on Sunday The gasket was bent out of shape and black soot all over my engine I just loosened the #2 and 3 runners slipped the old gasket out and slid the new in,it sealed great and really quieted the engine noise down. Rick

Mine too are leaking a little.

Do these manifolds warp often? I suppose it's best to take the manifold completely off and have it planed, but easier to just stick new gaskets in. Do they squash down enough to make up for slight variations in manifold flatness?

Thanks.

 Well. I do not recommend trying to just swap the one leaker. It did seal, but now 2 and 3 leak slightly. It took about 60 minutes and would have been 15 minutes more to do all 6 gaskets. I am going to do them all tonight. I did notice that the turbo kicks up faster with full pressure getting to it though.

Just make sure you get a good pry bar, and 13mm and 1/2" box and sockets (6 point if you got 'em).
