I'm planning on getting the Glacier "Air Boss" intake manifold plate. I'd also like to upgrade the exhaust side of things as well. Seems like the ATS is a popular choice. What is involved in using a center dump 2nd gen style? Is it worth it, or just stick with a 3rd gen unit. I'd like to cool things down a bit at lower boost and hopefully gain some spool up time.

I've installed 3 of the ATS manifolds... I've had 2 trucks of my own and one of my BIL's who broke the back 2 studs form the heat... in each case we installed the 2 piece manifold they offer. .

We're pleased. . just wish the unit came with new bolts. . we ended up going to Cummins for them...

I have had a BD on my truck for about 5 years, with no problems. Three piece, installation was a little tricky but once lined up went on OK.

ATS and BD are the ones I hear about the most.

PDI has one also, We have monsters twins bolted to it,Some engine set backs this year (Now last Year),Hopefully it will make most events this Year,Our goal is 1400HP fuel only.

Have read on other forums that the 2nd gen manifolds work great if your going to run Twins. It allows the engine to breath better. Just a little mod to the head pipe needs to be done. I know of a source that has a three piece a little cheaper than the ATS, if your interested send me a PM.

I was searching "2nd gen manifold" last night. I dont/cant run twins as much as I would love to. My current set up has the intake tube to the turbo very very close to the oil filter. Moving the turbo forward would be an issue there. does the 2nd gen piece have a higher mounting location for the turbo? Seems like it just shifts everything forward a a few inches?

I have the same problem as you, to close to oil filter, mine
is even worse, external gate. I just bought a ss diesel 2nd gen
manifold. You need to lenghthen down pipe and shorten pipe
to intercooler. 2nd gen will work for you. 2nd gens angle
forward, giving us more room.

OK-- I have been collecting this info for awhile... Following are links and pics to all of the 3rd gen exhaust manifolds that I have discovered and then all of the 2nd gen exhaust manifolds that I have discovered.

PLEASE know that I a NOT endorsing any one of these over the other in terms of performance... nor am I saying that they will increase performance, although many of them claim to... IMHO, they are simply some VERY cool looking exhaust manifolds that ALSO fit our trucks. And since the OP asked about using a 2nd gen manifold on a 3rd gen truck, I feel that it would be appropriate to post pics of BOTH types in the this thread!!

I , too, LOVE the idea of using a centered, 2nd gen exhaust manifold on our 3rd gen trucks. However, several of the equal length, (non-log type) manifolds, are ALSO beautiful, though just for the helluva it, I will aslo post a pic of a TOTALLY ugly one.
