The only reason would be for flow advantage. Get away from the 5/6 squeeze.
There has not been much chater on this site about using a second gen manifold in the place of the common rail set up as OEM. The cumminsforum guys were doing this a while back.
 
Thanks for the reply, I did the deletes last year and in doing so broke the back stud off, there was enough to put on a flange nut seems to be holding, I try to do some up grade every year if possible, I pull a 32ft fiver in the summer. fuel mileage went from 17 mpg to 21-25 mpg, always feel better when the truck is 100%
