How to PROPERLY break in a diesel engine. Part 2

I'm putting a CTD ISB-305 in my '93 H1 Hummer. I am very short on space for the exhaust. The stock muffler at 9x12x25" will not fit. Close but no cigar.

What aftermarket units are people using, muffler, resonator pipes, that will fit and is it possible to get a bit of the turbo sound on this motor. I can get exhaust pipe bent, although if there is a place that sells 3. 5? or 4" exhaust parts, send the link, that will help.

Sorry, Im a newbie to this but I liked the 2003 salvage vehicle so much I'm looking at buying an 2006 2500 CTD. I haven't decided manual or automatic. I promise I wont tear it apart.

Thanks.

Just run it straight with no muffler. Would sound good and get alot of turbo sound.

Otherwise go to Jegs (www.jegs.com) and pick out a straight through muffler of the proper inlet/outlet sizes and length. I got a Flowmaster that is about 19" long, 3"in/out that bolted right up to my 3" straight pipe (after removing a section of it of course).

I straight-piped it and then the wife complained about the noise. I ordered the muffler because what I didn't like about the straight pipe is the harshness of the exhaust when under throttle.

The flowmaster didn't really change the sound much inside the cab, but mellowed the harshness emitting from the smoke hole. Kinda like the crappy sound a gasser makes with no muffler, versus the pleasant tone it makes with glass packs.

There's still plenty of sound, turbo noise, and no backpressure. Also no more angry stares from my neighbors. ;)

My truck is a long bed. My son has a short bed that is also straight-piped. His is louder and more harsh than my long bed. It's amazing what the extra 2 feet of pipe did before the muffler.

put a stack through the hood!

Flowmaster on a Cummins  These are baffled mufflers. I would not run anything but a "straight through" muffler. I would say just run none and if you dislike it get a muffler later.
