The time came to replace my exhaust system because it rotted off. So I buy a 4" system, straight pipe, turbo back. I searched the forums for noise issues.
I see that it WILL be loud and will resonate at highway speeds. I order it with and without the muffler. I can send the muffler back if it is unused.
So I mount the system as a straight pipe.
YOWZA!! This is loud! Sounds like an angry cement truck. Kinda cool though.
I left it this way for quite some time. I pretty much got used to it.
Then the wife got to drive it. :-laf :-laf
Boy did she have alot to say!#@$%! The nicest thing she had to say was "How on earth do you deal with the noise?"
That got me to thinking. Just how loud IS this thing?
I got out my trusty db meter and checked it. Standing in front of the radiator, holding the meter at chest height, it read 97db. At the tailpipe, at idle, 3 feet away from the tip @ a 90degree angle it read 101db.
In the cab at idle it reads 94db. At 75mph it reads 99db.
That, my friends, is loud. I think the muffler will be attached by next weekend.
