2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Exhaust Question

I have a question about taking the cat. converter out of my exhaust system and using a piece of straight pipe in its place. I have a 95 extended cab diesel Ram.



I have already taken the muffler off and used the Muffler Elimination Kit sold thru Geno's in its place. I am looking for more "big rig" sound out of my truck and was told that I need to take the cat. converter out as well.



My question is regarding this process and what size pipe I need for replacement. I have the stock 3 inch pipe into the cat and then 4 inch out the back for about 12 inches, then necks down to 3inch with the ME kit and stays 3 rest of way back till last 12 inches is back to 4.



Has anybody taken the cat out before? I am sure someone out there has solved this problem before. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

I've seen them advertised, and I've thought of the same thing, but I hear there are bad fines if you get caught.

When I did my 95 and 98 like that all I did was take the cat & muffler assembly to my local exhaust shop and had them make a single piece elimination pipe with the correct bend to fit in the factory confines. It cost me $30 and all it took was a short time to install it. It made the system 3 inch from front to back. My state is doing emissions testing but the diesel owners are exempt and do not need tested,also,cat's are not needed on diesels here. Check your local laws or with your local inspection station for info first... ... Andy

On the '97 I had, I made up a long drill and drilled holes through the mesh in the converter. Then I beat the rest out with a big hammer and pipe. Then I reinstalled it. It gave a good fight, but finally came out. Looked legal, once reinstalled.
