I have a question concening the sound or tone of my exhaust.

I am running a 4" straight exhaust and want to get a deeper tone. I'm thinking of adding a piece of 5 or 6 inch pipe about 18" long in the area where the stock muffler usually goes.

Can any one tell me how this may affect the sound?

I don't know about sound, but you will create some turbulance unless you taper the outlet. It may create some unwanted system back pressure. One of the engineers in our group will probably be able to provide additional information, but I pump alot of liquids, and stepping down hose or pipe size creates alot of loss.

If I go this route I'll be using a 6" straight pipe with a reducer

(6"- 4") on either end so it should have a pretty smooth flow.

I cant say for sure how adding different size pipes will affect the "Deepness" of the tone. I think if anything the length of the tip will make a difference.

I used to have a 5" chrome tip on it, about 15" long but it created a really bad drone at cruising speed so now I'm running with no tip at all. When I cut it back it stopped my fender sooting problem too.
