I was just curious if anyone has run a Side pipe?

I would have a custom downpipe bent and then run a 5" pipe down the outside of the passenger frame rail and have a turndown to exit before the rear wheels. Has anyone seen a set-up like this.

Dude!!!!!!!!!! You just described what I've got... ... ... ... ... ... Minus the 5 inch, I have 4.

My custom stainless wheel cover looks more gray than anything. :D Built it all myself.

BTW Got some real nice pic to share with yall but posting them has been a challenge:(

I removed my tailpipe and replaced it with a 3" mandrel-bent elbow (slightly more than 90 degrees in my case), a section of straight and a tip to bring it out in front of my wheel. I might want to lengthen the straight part a little more because I get a little soot on my wheel and tire, but I'm pleased that I did it.

Sidepipes are cool

Check out my readers rigs - Have a gander at my Power Wagon - Same frame, and they're 4" KW stacks laid on their side. There's room depending on how long you want them.

Exhaust System

My downpipe is standard but not long for this world:) I'll use it for a pattern and fab my own this winter.

The 4inch travels along inside the frame rail a short distance then 45* to the outside of the frame where the frame rail sweeps upward next to the transmission. [the frame takes a dip downward at the front of the truck] Here at the frame rail there are two hangers welded onto the top of the pipe, out of view. The pipe has another 45* bend outside the frame then runs parallel with the bed . Here, there is another hanger welded at the backside of the pipe, which attaches to the frame rail. About 8inches in length to span the distance.

Happy to take pics if you'd like.

Scott, thanks for the info. I am going to the truck junkyard today to see if I can pick up a stack from a big rig. :)

I would like to get the 4" downpipe from PIERS but thats a little pricey, considering I am looking at a new transmission soon

John

PS Pics would be GREAT!!!!

side pipe

I ran a side pipe for a while, but changed back to mandrel bent 4" since the side pipe was making my back rim turn black.

Wife called during my lunch hour,,,,,,gave me the biggest/best compliment I've heard in months. Said she heard my truck pull out of the drive,,,,,,stop at the first intersection,,,,,,,,, pull onto the state highway AND accelerate all the way up the hill to the school's bus garage. :D :D

Thanks Dear!!!!!! I'll be home by 3:30

Truck Graveyard wante 75 for a used chrome stack. Went to truck prts house and I can buy NEW for 65!!!

My plan:

Cut off old system before the frame kick-up

install 3" to 4" adaptor

4" Flex pipe to 4" 45º clamped to a 30" 4" Dia. Stack

Any thoughts???

Is the stack chrome? I'm thinking of the welding . You'll need two 45's if you go that rout. I used an exhaust pipe for a bus. It has the two 45's on it, which I cut of and installed a piece of pipe to lengthen it so as to reach the outboard side of the truck. Nothing is clamped other than the 3 to 4 adapter to down pipe and the short length of flex. The pipe it'self is all welded, however you can use fitted sections that clamp together.

Scott

Oh, you'll need hangers and isolators. I used frame hangers and full swivel/adjustable isolators.

anyone ever run their header pipe out through the front inner fender? it looks like there might be enough room and then it would be a clear shot to thee sidepipe... ...
