Ok here goes: I am in the need of replacing my exhaust system and was thinking of upgrading to a turbo back, minus the "cat, 4' system. Ive just gotten my new Dipricol guages(boost, egt, trans temp) and will very soon, be ordering a TST #6 plate or the equivilant to it, as I do not want to get too much into my auto transmission, if I dont have to. I thought the 4'' would be a better choice, but after recent reading, I see that others think its not so unless you are going w/the big bombs. I am recent to the world of "Rattlin", so as you may have guessed by now, also damned confused. Should I go w/a 4" system or just replace w/a stock system. Also, probably the most I will ever tow, is my 4k(loaded) 21ft bassboat. I very much appreciate all the replys and do rely on your expertise. Many thnx to all. RATTLE ON!!!!!

The money you save on the exhaust would get you half way to buying a new torque converter. Straight pipe your 3 inch or remove the cat and put a free flow muffler on.

You'll notice a bigger difference with a new TC than you would exhaust. :D

I agree with Steve, just strait pipe the factory 3 inch, it sounds great, and I don't have an EGT problem, even with my stock plate slid forward... With the money you spend on 4 inch, you could buy the #6 plate probably. Just get under the truck with a hack-saw and cut the cat off. If you are a good welder, and have access to a mig, you can put the pipe in yourself, or just buy some 3 inch flex pipe, that always is easy to work with, and clamp it up. Whatever you decide, I would save some pennies, and go with 3 inch, I think you will be vary happy with it. Just my $. 02

Well, I don't have a 4" system, but am considering one, or at least gutting the cat and using a free flow muffler. I will tell you, that my DTT VB & TC are the best performance/power upgrade I have made and with the TST cam plate, it is a pleasure to drive. Next mod(s) are injectors, bigger cam plate and ??

I wouldn't use flex pipe. Just use a straight length of pipe like I did, flared on each end to 3" ID. Costs about $20 from your local muffler shop.

I just put in a 4" exhaust from Husker High Performance the manufacturer is Expandit. Great sounding 4" mandrel bent system shipped same day and easy to install. You can't beat it. I would'nt have a straight pipe because of the noise and drone. You better half will never ride with you again. . wait that not necessarily bad;):p:)

Seriously its not really louder than stock, has a much deeper tone. I couldn't be happier.

Just a note for you guys wanting to cut your cat out. The motor end of the cat (at least on a 98) is 3" and the muffler end is 4". I had a muffler shop make me a 30" long pipe that was 3" I. D. in and 4" I. D. out. Measure yours before you cut and have at it. Sounds good even with a muffler. Hope this helps.
