I just replaced my intercooler boot and there seems to be a small amount of shoot in there. Is this normal. Turbo is clean and runs quiet. I had a hole in the stock boot so I mad a new one. Thank you Mcmaster carr.

which end was the boot you replaced. it can be normal to get some soot up at the intake horn end with some miles on it. they turbo end might get some too... if it isn't much, don't worry abou a little soot.

It was the boot going from the turbo to the pipe to the cooler. The boot rub on the stock air tube. I have switched to the afe kit with the torque tube and saw the ware make but didn't think about it. Earlier this week driving the hills to big bear I was running it hard and was around 37 lbs of boos when the stock boot let go. There was a 3/8 whole on the outside but inside was ripper to shreads. So I had to finish drivind up the hill home with no boost. The boot is 2. 75 I. D. and Piers didn't make one. So I ordered the hose with the specs that peirs gave me from mcmaster carr and installed it this morning. Runs great and the whistle is quiter. The stock boot had a small anound of soot in there. When you wiped ypur finger in there there was a little on the finger. Not like the exhaust that is black.

Its either oil film from your AFE filter or oil can get by the turbo seal a little bit too. Too high of crankcase pressure cause's the oil in the return line from the turbo not to want to flow right, so it builds pressure and seeps by the oil-ring seal on the compressor side and can leave a bit of a black film.
