Does anyone know what the downpipe size is on an 04 (not 04. 5)? I thought I read that the exhaust was entirely 4" with the exception of the downpipe which was 3. 5 inches. I'm looking into getting an ebrake for a buddy & don't have the truck on hand to look at. I'm thinking about using a USGear unit & I think it would mount between the resonator & the muffler.

Thanks!

WOT

The 2004 (not 2004. 5 and up) are 3. 5 from the exhaust elbow to the muffler with a 4 inch tail pipe. If you want to go with 4 inch you can install a 2004. 5 exhaust elbow and down pipe which are 4 inch and then add an after market 4 inch exhaust like MBRP.

There is a resonator on the 3rd gen right? When you say 3. 5" to the muffler do you really mean the resonator or indeed the muffler (making the pipe between the resonator & muffler 3. 5" as well)?

Sure would be easier if I had one to look at!

Thanks

WOT

KCLaber: You said you used a 2004. 5 exaust elbow and down pipe. Do they bolt up OK ? Did you then have to order a complete 4" system or only the pieces you needed ? I noticed you used DPPI but recomend MBRP ???

What type of muffler?? Is it much loader than stock?

Anyone else wants to wade in on this please help.

Thanks, Bill

I went with Rip Rooks 5" system.

Downpipe jumps from 3-1/2 (I measured almost 3-3/4) to 4" just as it comes out of the elbob. As soon as it bends at the bottom it goes to 5"... straight back...

my BD system is like that too for the down pipe... and 5" for the midpipe, muffler and tailpipe section

Bill Weber. The 2004. 5 exhaust elbow and down pipe bolt right up. The only thing that needs to be done to the elbow is that you need to remove the two 1/16 th locating pins. The exhaust is an mbrp system which I bought from dppi. The mbrp muffler is a lot louder than stock and I am looking to add a resonator to quiet it down inside the cab. It is most noticable around 2000 rpms when towing a load. By using the factory down pipe you get a true 4 inch from turbo on down exhaust and you can later add a turbo mount exhaust brake that is 4 inch in and out. If you want part numbers for the down pipe and clamp let me know. Used 4 inch elbows are available from members who have put on an exhaust brake and removed their elbows.

KCLaber: I sure appreciate all the info. It is a big help. Good luck with the resonator. I don't want a lot of droning in the cab either.

I see RAndre has some elbows, I'll give him a call.

Thanks, again Bill
