My exhasust on my 03 has a little stronger odor than it usually has. It doesn't have any noticable signs of any smoke in the exhaust either, white, blue, or black. The odor has more of a raw fuel smell. The truck has 150K on the clock and runs idols fine. I just wanted to make sure that wasn't a sign of a coming injector failure.

Thanks

Is it a Cali truck? Maybe a failing cat?

But since your in AR probably not. Try a good injector cleaner for a few tanks.

Are you sure it's the exhaust? I had a distinct raw fuel smell that turned out to be a leaking CP3 on my 2007. Didn't affect performance.

Steve

Did it leak enough to leave puddle. I park in garage and don't have any puddles. Frame has always been damp under cp3 due to power steering pump seep.

I would suggest keeping an eye on your oil level as well. I think I've had almost every possible fuel problem on the '05. From injector issues to leaky CP3's to a cracked injector line (#4 of course), as well as leaky rail pressure valves (which will not leave a puddle as the fuel quits leaking as soon as you shut the truck off) and bad rail pressure sensors, just to name a few issues... #@$%!

Am reading your thoughts correctlly ya'll think possible bad injector causing fuel to wash down the cylider walls and dilute the oil.

I have the same problem, noticed it about 3 months ago. She use to sit untill my "91 4runner decided to eat itself. My 06 only has 43,000, (Navy, deploy alot), she has white smoke at cold start up for about 5 seconds and I notice the fuel smell. I don't notice any puddles, or mosture around the injectors or CP3, I will check before I start her up and when I get home. I'm an AMSOIL man so I'm on my second tank with fuel additive. Don't notice any power loss, etc.

I have always noticed a smell of fuel when I shut my truck down, never thought much of it since I never see any pudles or leaks... should I be woried???

If your crankcase is overfull, but you have not added any oil, it is a definite sign that the injectors or lines or solenoids are allowing a leak into the cylinders. You can also smell the oil on the dipstick to see if it has a raw-diesel like smell to it.

it could be the return fuel line on back of head leaking. i had a fuel smell with no visible leaks and found it to be the bolt holding return fuel line on back of head.

I have been changing oil at 7500 miles the three or four I have done myself and have kept a close inspection on the dipstick at the time of the oil change it is always just shy of being a quart low. I am do for oil change now and it is about a quart low as usual. To me the odor is in the exhaust I notice it more when I am hooking up trailer and let it sit and idle while hook up and strap everything down. I may do an oil analisys when I service it this week.

Truck is paid for and runs to good and milage is to good to want a cosly repair.

It is the h. o. I forget hp i think it is 285 someone around here will correct me for sure if i am wrong.

Pulling my loaded lq horse trailer which weighs 16,500lbs i get about 11 if keep it under 72mph if i get faster it drops. Running 55-60 i have got 14. 5mpg. Empty i get about 18 on high way at 75.

I must have gotten one of "those" pickups from Mopar. If I was to run 75 mph empty I bet I could watch my fuel gauge move! I suppose if my mileage doesn't improve after a trans/TC rebuild and hook a smarty up,I'm going to trade it in for a fuel efficient diesel. Perhaps a Golf TDI and cut the back half off to make a bed:eek:
