firewall heat shield/barrier?

My 5. 9 is an industrial motor and it has the starter on the passenger side. I had an "S" piece of 3" exhaust made but it's real close to the starter and I feel like it's restricting the exhaust as well. Is it possible to rotate my turbo 180' and bring the exhaust out of the turbo with the exhaust outlet facing toward the front of the truck? It would be easier to reroute the intake instead of the exhaust. Anybody tried this? Thanks

Exhaust, Starter Too Close ! Rotate Turbo 180 ??????

That set up sounds like a major can of worms opening up

Id sell the bell houseing adapter and get a diffrent one to fit your application Depending upon what the engine is going into especially a older 4x4 with the front drive line all on the same side it will be a nite mare period .

How ever Cummins does have many configurations of turbos and intake and exhaust manifolds

The problem is that I have the roadranger 6610 for a transmission and I don't know if they make a bell housing with the starter on the other side. I bought some of that fiberglass insulation to wrap around the exhaust that is closest to the starter. I think this will help some. If I could go back and do this again, I would have found a different bellhousing. I'm at the point where I just want to get the bugs wroked out and get the truck running so I can enjoy the "fruits of my labor" as my mother would say!!!

I did a search on this a while back... . and I did find a website (don't remember where I found it) that showed the different SAE bolt patterns (like a SAE #2). If I remember correctly the bolt patern was faily circular... the point that I was getting at though, was rather than go through all the trouble of getting around that starter... just gett a new bellhousing adapter with the starter on the other side. Like DVolk was saying. This could be a simple fix or maybe there is more to it... what do you have this motor in???

have you looked at different(yrs) exhaust manifolds to locate the turbo up/down/fore/aft? also check Rips site for twin adapters, or even a custom extension or header.

I wouldn't mind replacing the bellhousing, it's in an 85 chevy crew cab 4x4. Where would I find this other bellhousing? I've thought about replacing the manifold but I just got one of the ATS manifolds. I know I could easily sell it but I'd rather replace the bellhousing than the manifold. I think that I'll always be fighting the starter no matter which manifold I get.

I'm certain that you could get this from Cummins, but not so sure that is your cheapest option. If you knew what housing it is and what other aplications it is common with, then you would have better luck finding it used.

what's the best way to contact cummins and see if they can get this bell housing. If I could get one for less than a grand, I'd probably do it.

You can figger out which Sae size bellhousing you have by measuring the distance between the center of bolts hole's

Sae #2 measures 4 3/4" C/L

Sae #3 measures 4 3/8" C/L
