All right, all you bomber types. Here is a golden opportunity for you to give me some experienced advice. My 1998. 5 2500 with only 25480 miles, thats right, 25K miles, the exhaust system rotted off, right before the muffler. The mechanic advised there was not enough left on the muffler to weld a patch. the whole system looks very clean. I'm sure there are pieces available from Napa to reconnect the two halves, but napa does not sell the whole system, or its parts yet... . So, enjoying the new throatier growl from no muffler, what do you recommend I do to repair the system. Did I read years ago (here) that some were taking the muffler off and putting a straight pipe in?, or was it the "resonator" before the muffler they removed. If dodge is the only one that sells the muffler and tail pipe, any idea where to get the best prices for Dodge parts in the Northeast? Thanks

1998.5 exhust system

i just replaced my exhaust at 265000 km. or 16000 mi. went for a 4in. stainless, 950. 00 from Piers. quiter up to 60mph , louder above that. faster turbo spool up, slight performance. hoping not to buy again for a long time. :) :)

Got my system from www.bigexhaust.com

Just looked on their site, the BE 4" is on sale and the 5" still has the TDR member discount for the '94-02 trucks.

They don't have a pic. of the 5" on the '94-02 trucks, but it looks similar to the one for the '03 trucks.

They carry other aftermarket systems also.

I am probably wrong, but isn't there a 5year/50,000 mile warranty on the emission control/exhaust system? My dad has an 01 gasser and I was watching him flip through the warranty manual today and I remember seeing something like that in there. I was probably hallucinating but, it might be worth finding out. Although, since you have the opportunity, go 4". I did and I love it.

If you really want stainless steel

TDR Member Chipstein is selling his 4" stainless steel Banks system for quite a nice price.

Chip is moving on up to a 5" Rip system.

Hope this helps

Massman,

I also live in Mass and the exhaust on my 98. 5 2500 also rotted off, at 80000 miles though.

For about the dealer price on a new tail pipe and muffler, I got a complete aluminized 4" system from DPP.

Easy to install, although one of the pipes was too long - a quick fix with my sawzall, which I had out anyways to get rid of the old system.

Nice looking system, sounds good at throttle, and a definite upgrade from stock. :)

I would recommend you give them a look.

The muffler rotted off from my 99 I bought a 4" to 3" reducer and a short piece of 3" strait pipe from napa for 33. 00 now it's fixed

Rip's System

Here's another vote to check out Rip Rook. Just installed his 4" aluminized system. Can't beat the price and as already stated, he's one heck of a great guy to deal with!!!!!!!

Massman, I live in central Mass. also. And the muffler rotted off my '97 CTD. I installed a Magna Flow stainless steel muffler and tailpipe for about 2/3 the price the dealers wanted. The system is designed for the 24V trucks, so you should have no problem installing it. Magna Flow advertises in the TDR sometimes.

Just installed a Rip's 4" Diamond exhaust last week. I'm extremely pleased with it. Instalation was a breeze in about 2 hours. Rip was very easy to work with; no bull and straight to the point.

What 'Scott Elliott' said! Not sure how long it is for our trucks, but they are often much longer than the regular warranty. My Toyota developed a exhaust leak at the Oxygen sensor at 6 1/2 years old. Emissions warranty on that car was 7 years and the dealer took care of it (would of been $350+ six months later).
