Well, since you have to replace it anyway, you might as well step up to a larger exhaust. The cost difference will be minimal over the stock exhaust, if not less. Most of the kits can be installed by do it yourselfers also.
I Installed 4" exhaust to a stock motor and was suprised by some results. Seemed to change shift pattern, causing it to want to shift at lower RPM. Not a big change but it was noticable. Also was suprised by No lower EGT's across the board, from Full throttle to cool down. (Had installed K&N FIPK 2 weeks before in preparation for DTT transmission, Stage 2 's & Edge EZ, but don't know if this makes a difference) Also no change in mileage-wasn't sure about expecting any. If your staying stock with the engine-I would stay stock exhaust- depending on price.
As a newish CTD owner I'm no expert but almost all systems seem to be interelated, probably through the computer. Change one and you affect others in some way. Would love to hear more expert opinions.
I have the Pinnacle Performance 4" exhaust from Jerry Jardine in Wyoming. They advertise the exhaust in the TDR. I got mine through Nowel [HVAC] back in early 2001. If I remember, I paid $435 for it at that time. I have seen a lot of posts favorably describing the 4" system from Rip Rook, which is a similar price I believe.
My Jardine system came with a straight through muffler, I don't recall which brand now, as I took it off and sold it to another TDR member about 16 months ago.
I just got off the phone with Rip Rook and ordered one of his systems. As I've read in other posts, Rip really took the time to answer all of my questions. A real stand up guy!
I should have the system by late next week. After it's installed, I'll let all of you know what my imperssions are.
