Got a '99 and while towing the fifth up long grades pulling hard at 2200 rpm or over and full throttle blowing 17-18 psi I would see 1200F and climbing exhaust temps pre-turbo.

No mods except for a BD exhaust brake and "Horton" fan clutch

Are others seeing the same?

Sent an enquiry to Cummins and they said that they normally see 9-1100F pre turbo at full power.

Thanks

David

I can see 1350 degrees and higher if I dont watch EGT's closely pulling 22,800 combined T&T with OD off pulling long grades in the Rockies

My 99 ran the same temps, I could get 1350* if I worked at it trying to get them up. You can adjust the wastegate for 22-23 PSI and it will help some, make it really hard to get 1250* and not set any codes. Personally I think the temps you are seeing are right for the truck, and should be that high during a hard pull. Lower EGT is not necessary.

I could get mine to climb past 1350* when pulling a big grade at WOT. Completely stock truck. The muffler delete helped the EGTs the most. Now I never see more than 1100*

The hottest I have ever seen has been 1350* @ 8500 ft elevation w/ a 32 ft 5ver on a 6% grade.

On the other hand my engine temp went to the hot side of normal so I shifted down.
