All,

Took the truck down to get an exhaust tip installed... . got the kind that welds on..... after the install I was checking it out and I have a question.

The tip was originally 12" long with a rolled 4" edge on one side and the motor side was about 3. 5"..... they cut the motor side and welded it on... .

Question: If I look inside, it's not completely smooth as a slip on would be, the tip (motor side) is about 1/8" into the exhaust stream... . about the same as the rolled tip (outside end side)..... is this minor overhang going to restrict exhaust in any way? Increase EGT's? (dont have guages yet)..... probably being paranoid, but it's obviously not maintainng the full 4" diameter..... should I get a different tip or screw it?

Thanks in advance

I can't answer your question with anything technical. If it was me, I wouldn't add anything that restricted the exhaust flow in any way. I would call Rip or a good diesel shop and ask some questions. Just my opinion and not based on any factual data at all.

I just put a 5" from Pinnacale (sp) on mine. I had to beat it on with a mallet and haven't welded it yet. It went on so hard I doubt it needs welded? What do you guys think? thanks, Doc

By the time the exhaust gases get to the tip, they have cooled and slowed down so much that I doubt an 1/8 inch lip would have a measurable effect on egt's
