I am looking at getting a new exhaust for my truck? I talked to a shop to day and he said he could get me a magnaflow exhaust for about $500 plus $70 to put it on. I asked about duals and he said that would cut my low end torque some. Does anybody have a magnaflow exhaust on there truck and do you like it? For those people around Nashville TN. Is there any place that will install things like exhausts and gauges. I do not have the tools or the room to do it myself. I have a stock 03 Quad-Cab Shortbed 4X4 Auto.

I started off originally with a 4" MagnaFlow and I liked it. I pulled the muffler and ran straight for awhile, but it was too loud in the cab. I went back to the muffler shop and got a MagnaFlow that was 4" in and dual 3" out and ran them out toward the corners. I don't have a spare tire so I was able to do it with minimal bends. I don't know that it takes away that much from the low end torque. If it does, I don't notice it.

the guy that told you that you would loose low end is definately a gasser guy.

once the exhaust goes past the turbo it's fair game as to how you get it out, just as long as it's not restrictive. This is why you see many people putting on 5 inch pipe on. the quicker your able to get the exhaust out of a diesel, the more power you can make.

Dunno - I'm getting ready for Rip Rook to install a 4 inch Magnaflow system on my '02 - and THAT system uses a smaller diameter downpipe to the muffler, THEN opens up to a full 4 inches. I was a bit concerned about lost power with the restriction of the smaller diameter downpipe, but Rip assures me the smaller downpipe WILL deliver better low end torque without affecting top end HP...

Could it be Rip is a "gasser guy"? :D :D

As far as duals can't give any advice, other than I can't see duals affecting your bottom end. What ends up happening is you run a four inch pipe from your turbo to your muffler and the muffler is a single in dual out. Your exhaust doesn't split till your muffler. As far as I know its just for looks, and it looks good. Besides, even IF it affected you bottom end, just throw a box on there. Believe me, once you start, you can't stop. BTW - love my Areoturbine, and at $245 and a VERY simple install, I think its the best sounding single outlet exhaust on the market for 3d gens. Just my opinion. Oh, and install on the Aeroturbine is SO SIMPLE. If you have a cresent wrench, a hacksaw (or sawzall) you can do it in no time! Good luck!

I've heard that with these 3rd gen trucks, you actually lose power by having a free exhaust. Perhaps it only applies to the 305/555, but I have heard that if you go with a turbo-back 4" (instead of the 3 1/2" elbow) the ECM sees boost rising too quickly so it defuels to keep the boost in check.

That said, I dynoed my truck a couple of weeks ago. Two pulls, within 1 hp of each other.

247hp/477tq---Completely stock with the exception of a Banks Monster Exhaust. Doesn't seem like my truck lost anything.

BTW---The Banks exhaust is really nice for a single. Throaty without being too loud.

I just looked under my truck and there is no cat? It looks like it has a 4" exhaust.

Would the duals work and still have room for my spare?

I talked to TST about what exhaust I should run with their box and they said the stock 03 exhaust does not need to be replaced. They said that in dyno tests they found no improvement in power or EGT by going to a four inch and found decreased power by going to five inch. I'm leaving mine stock. Besides, I like a sleeper.

Unless you're running BIG mods, a five inch will give you lower power than a four inch. Bigger is NOT always better.

... and unless it gives me proven power, fuel economy gains, or EGT drop, why would I want to replace my stock stainless steel system at a cost of more than $500? More noise?

The stock muffler is the restriction ,the stock 3. 5 to 4. 0 tail Pipe works fine until you pull heavy than the stock muffler will add 100* when additional HP is added. You will not get any Hp gains but when you add 90 plus hp thats when the heat will show up, any straight thru will work but most have the drone or are loud.
