Looking for a new 4 or 5 inch exshaust for my truck.

Dont want to break the bank on this but want the best that my money can buy. I'm looking at spending 600 or less for the entire system from turbo back. I dont tow much and when I do it is no where near the max weight. I do haul often in the bed but usually plywood, drywall and the like, but often pretty heavy ( 30 sheets of drywall. etc). Truck is really not modifed at all other then a Scotty II.

Want a good sound, nice wide bends and free flow muffler. Want to drop EGTs, which from what I have read and seen equals better mileage and longevity.

I know there are several systems out there, what is everyone using and how do u like it. What was effects on egt's and mileage? Hows the sound and drone. If there is drone is it better or worse than stock and what RPM range is it at. How easy was it to install. I like the Jardine system, so if anyone has this system please comment on it specifically.

If you had it to do over again, would you the same way or would you go with a different setup?

Thanks in advance,

J-

I currently have a 4" with both muffler and a renator and still thinking bigger. right now on ebay some is advertizing a 5" exhaust system for around $350

Come on Guys, someone has to have opinions and comments on which exhaust systems have the best features.

I mean my "oil war" thread had too many posts to read. Think of this as "exhaust war". LOL

Help a brother out here. LOL

I installed a Banks Monster Exhaust (4" st. st. ) about two weeks ago. The installation was a breeze. Everything, including hangers already attached to exhaust pipe, was included. It took approx. 3 hours in which 1/2 hour I needed assistance. $700 out the door!! He-- of a price for a stainless steel system.

I must agree with zach, Rip's Allied system get a lot of positive comments on looks and sound.

It definately draws attention :) throaty and

I can chime in on this one because I like to play.

1st Set Up - 4" Dynomax (Cat) Back, it replaced the muffler to the tail pipe for around $350. I also purchased 4" straight pipe ($75) and an adapter and cut the factory exhaust off just behind the front hanger. I have a sound clip on my web page - no drone and sounded pretty good. The muffler was a straight thru design.

2nd Set Up - I replaced the muffler with a straight pipe. The drone appeared around 2000 rpm and the turbo whistle at idle was very distinct. I have a sound clip on my web page.

3rd Set Up - I replaced the oval dynomax tip with a 4" mega cannon from summit racing $40. The tip alone increased the dbs at the tip and look out at full throttle, the sound is incredible.

4th and current - I replaced the whole set up. I bought the down pipe from Rip Rooks, I bought a 4"-5" adapter and 5" pipe from NAPA $100 and 5" tail pipe from Stans Headers. I welded the system together this time (should keep me from playing anymore) and I cut the mega cannon to slide over the 5" pipe for a tip.

The 5" seems quieter in the cab but has the 2100 RPM drone. As for outside, music to MY ears, although I can't say it is to others. It gets stares and head shakes no matter where I go. I haven't had it in for inspection yet but I have a feeling here in PA, I'll have to muffle it.

Hope this helps,

Lost factory muffler...

I had my factory muffler cut off, uh... I mean it fell off and it sounds great. The resonator stayed on. I love the sound. Cost: $45. Can't beat the price!:D :D

I've built a 4" and 4 different 5" exhaust systems and it can be done for under $400. 00. You can get everything you need from a truck parts supply house. All mandrel bent elbows. Aluminized exhaust pipe. Contact me if you want more info. -- email address removed --

Hey J hows it goin'? I just put a 4" summit exhaust on mine $335. 17 shipped to my door. Thats tax and S/H!! I thought good price. So did wife:D Had it on in about 2 hours and I was takin my time. It was 20 degrees out that day:) Just a thought! I liked it cause it wasnt outrageously priced and it is a quality peice. Isnt loud have to roll pass. window down to hear it but boy does it move more exhaust. Put your hand near end of tail pipe before and after its cool. Sounds good at tail pipe sounds good on the loud pedal but not overly obnoxious. I didnt want that any way have a little one on the way got to be more carefull. Low end throttle responce picked up EGTs went down but not a lot. Good luck!

Thanks SMokin Joe, sounds like a good deal. Like that fact that it is not overly loud. My 1 month rides in the back seat most of the time. I'll have to look into it.

Hey how did the FP gauage install go? good I hope.

Thanks
