I just bought an 05 auto and im trying to find a happy medium on an exhaust system. I want it to have a nice deep tone without that raspy popping sound like a straight pipe. Ive talked to several muffler shops and they said that the only thing is a 36'' glasspack but its still too loud. Texas diesel power in weatherford said a "cool duals" system works great but I wont spend the $700 on exhaust

I went with a Banks down pipe that changed the relationship of the muffler inlet allowing for the use of a straight inlet and straight outlet while retaining the stock tail pipe.

I used a Donaldson M090544 muffler that has these specs:

  • Inlet Diameter (Inches): 4
  • Body Diameter (Inches): 9
  • Overall Length (Inches): 51
  • Outlet Diameter (Inches): 4
  • Rated Flow (CFM): 1158 to 2006
  • Attenuation (dBA): 13-18

It has a deep tone, is pretty quiet but noticeably more loud than stock with the windows down. Windows up some say its just as quiet as stock but I think its more loud. I wanted more flow without more noise and I think I got a little of both. I would do this muffler again.

Matt400,

Was this a direct replacement or did you have to modify your stock piping? Thanks

I went with a Banks down pipe "off the turbo" to eliminate the cast iron elbow, doing that placed the pipe in a different location where it made it possible to use a straight section of 4" pipe from the down pipe to this muffler. Banks has them for with and without CAT.

If you plan to keep the CAT there are some nice "CAT Back" system starting to come out.

Red, it is not a drop-in replacement. you need to flip over the intermediate pipe and shorten the rear pipe. I also shortened the itermediate to get it to fit just right, but I have a short bed.

Still trying to decide on my rig. Several systems around for $300 to $400 for the single. Can't understand why the pipe from the dual outlet muffler should add another $500? I'm interested in lowering the EGT, as my stocker runs 800 on the level when pulling less than 5K. Doc

I'm running Rip's 4" Diamond eye system. It has a "nice deep tone without that raspy popping sound like a straight pipe" and is reasonably priced. Give Rip a call at Source Automotive, he'll set you up.

Hey Guys,

I have a question. I want to get the MBRP exhaust, have not decided on the stainless or aluminum yet, BUT, I also want to get rid of the cat on my stock exhaust, by running a replacement made by MBRP right off the turbo. Does anyone know if we actually have to smog the 04. 5 in California?

Thanks
